Archaon, Ikit Claw, Tyrion, and Be’lakor lead this editorial ranking of Legendary Lords for single-player Immortal Empires campaigns. The order weighs campaign momentum, the safety of the opening, army flexibility, faction mechanics, and how forgiving the campaign is—not multiplayer performance. Creative Assembly has not published an official ranking of these lords, and the order below is a judgment, not a developer tier list.
The 10 best Legendary Lords for Immortal Empires
This is a campaign-focused ranking for players controlling the faction themselves. The comparative baseline is necessarily patch-sensitive: the faction tier list used as one reference was published August 8, 2026, and reflects Patch 8.1 / Build 24125400, released July 9. It assesses economy, opening survival, army strength, and campaign completion, but ranks factions rather than establishing a head-to-head order for individual lords. The following sequence is an editorial synthesis of those factors and the lords’ campaign hooks. Read the faction tier list and its methodology.
| Rank | Legendary Lord | Campaign profile | Opening | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Archaon the Everchosen | Exceptional campaign momentum and a powerful, varied roster | Manageable, with an expansive path to grow | Players who want to build a Chaos coalition and choose how the campaign ends |
| 2 | Ikit Claw | Strong Skaven campaign tools and a flexible roster | Relatively forgiving for a snowball-focused campaign | Players who like combining battlefield strength with faction-specific upgrades |
| 3 | Tyrion | Strong all-round campaign and army foundation | One of the more approachable starts in this list | First-time High Elf players and players who want a straightforward campaign |
| 4 | Be’lakor | High strategic reach and access to varied Chaos forces | Room to expand, but rewards active map management | Players who want to move between theaters rather than follow one fixed front |
| 5 | Grom the Paunch | Greenskin momentum with a distinctive army-customization loop | Good potential once the campaign gets moving | Players who enjoy making a focused army plan pay off |
| 6 | Grimgor Ironhide | Direct, forceful Greenskin expansion | More about maintaining momentum than careful turtling | Players who want an aggressive, battle-led campaign |
| 7 | Throt the Unclean | Skaven roster experimentation and strong specialist options | Powerful tools, but more systems to manage | Players who enjoy customizing units and optimizing an army |
| 8 | Imrik | High Elf campaign with a distinctive dragon-hunting focus | Less forgiving than Tyrion’s | Players who want a focused challenge and standout monsters |
| 9 | Eltharion the Grim | High Elf campaign with a specialized, collection-oriented army hook | More involved than a simple expansion campaign | Players who enjoy capturing enemies and building around elite troops |
| 10 | Kholek Suneater | Chaos campaign centered on a formidable monster lord | Less forgiving for players unfamiliar with Warriors of Chaos | Players who want a lord-led, destruction-oriented campaign |
1. Archaon the Everchosen
Archaon takes the top spot for campaign breadth and momentum. Update 9.0 substantially expanded his campaign: after defeating named Chaos Legendary Lords, he can subjugate them, and after a Short Victory he can choose to become the Lord of the End Times. That choice shifts the campaign toward devastation and razing rather than further settlement conquest. The change makes his campaign especially appealing to players who want a late-game objective that can alter how they approach the map. Creative Assembly said it wanted to give Archaon “some love” with the Lords of the End Times release; the Update 9.0 notes explain the changes.
2. Ikit Claw
Ikit earns a high place for pairing the Skaven’s adaptable roster with a distinctive technology-and-weaponry focus. His Forbidden Workshop lets players invest in upgrades and special weapons, giving the campaign a clear customization loop beyond ordinary territorial growth. He suits players who want a powerful faction with several ways to shape an army rather than relying on one unit type.

3. Tyrion
Tyrion ranks highly as a dependable all-round choice: his campaign offers a strong faction foundation without requiring the player to master an especially elaborate lord-specific system before expanding. That balance makes him a sound first pick for someone who wants to learn Immortal Empires with a capable roster and a comparatively direct campaign plan.
4. Be’lakor
Be’lakor is a strong choice for players who want strategic mobility and a campaign that can reach beyond a single local front. His shadow rifts provide a distinctive way to move forces around the map, while access to Chaos forces gives the campaign room to vary its army composition. That reach can create opportunities, but it also asks the player to manage several strategic directions.

5. Grom the Paunch
Grom’s signature cauldron turns ingredients gathered during the campaign into effects that can shape his army. It gives a Greenskin campaign a satisfying preparation-and-payoff loop: pursue useful ingredients, select a bonus, then build the next army around it. Grom is a good fit for players who enjoy faction mechanics that reward planning without abandoning the Greenskins’ aggressive style.
6. Grimgor Ironhide
Grimgor is the straightforward pick for a campaign built around fighting and expansion. His Greenskin identity and powerful lord-led army make him a natural choice for players who would rather keep pressure on the enemy than spend much time developing a complicated campaign subsystem. He ranks below the lords above because that directness offers less mechanical variety.

7. Throt the Unclean
Throt’s Flesh Laboratory lets players mutate and improve units, making army composition a central part of his campaign identity. It offers substantial room to experiment, but that extra customization is most rewarding for players willing to engage with its systems. For someone who wants a simpler Skaven campaign, Ikit is the easier recommendation.
8. Imrik
Imrik’s campaign centers on dragon encounters, giving High Elf expansion a focused monster-hunting thread. The distinctive objective makes his campaign memorable, but it is a less forgiving choice than Tyrion if you want an uncomplicated start. Pick Imrik when the appeal of pursuing dragons is worth trading some opening comfort.

9. Eltharion the Grim
Eltharion’s campaign uses the Prison to capture enemy characters and develop his forces, while his Mistwalker units provide a specialized army identity. Those systems give him more character than a standard High Elf expansion campaign, but they also make him a more involved option than Tyrion. He is best for players who enjoy building toward elite, faction-specific forces.
10. Kholek Suneater
Kholek is a formidable monster lord for players who want to center an army on a towering battlefield presence. He rounds out the list as a strong Warriors of Chaos option, though Archaon offers a broader campaign arc and more strategic flexibility. Kholek is the pick when the lord himself, rather than a wider set of campaign choices, is the main attraction.

Which lord should you play first?
For a broadly approachable campaign from this ranking, start with Tyrion. If you want a more aggressive opening and a campaign built around Chaos expansion, consider Archaon. For new players choosing specifically among the Lords of the End Times content, SEGA’s guidance recommends Boris Todbringer; that recommendation is for newcomers and is not an overall power ranking. The same content release adds Thanquol, the Glottkin, and Nagash as paid Legendary Lords, plus Neferata as a free Legendary Lord. See SEGA’s new-player FAQ for its recommendation and the Lords of the End Times lineup.
What Update 9.0 means for this ranking
Update 9.0 also introduced Daemonic Re-Emergence: defeated Daemonic factions can return after a number of turns in provinces with the relevant high corruption. That change affects the wider campaign context for Chaos factions, not just the lord at the top of this list. Hotfix 9.0.2 followed on September 30, 2026, with crash fixes, Thanquol multiplayer-mechanic support, and adjusted victory conditions. Creative Assembly had also said a balance-focused patch was being finalized, so the older Patch 8.1 faction comparison should not be treated as a definitive post-9.0 balance verdict. Read the 9.0.2 hotfix notes.
Do you need DLC to play these lords?
WARHAMMER III ownership grants access to Immortal Empires and its launch races and lords; other games and DLC unlock their associated playable races and lords. Content must be owned on the same client, and some DLC can unlock a lord without ownership of that lord’s original base game. Lords can still appear in the campaign world even when you do not own the content that makes them playable. Because requirements vary by lord and content, check SEGA’s Immortal Empires DLC ownership guide before buying.
How to read this ranking
The order favors campaign reliability and the mix of strength, opening challenge, faction economy, and distinctive mechanics. It is not a multiplayer tier list, a win-rate ranking, or the result of a controlled comparative test. One September 2026 GamesRadar+ account describes Nagash as powerful in battle but difficult to manage across multiple fronts, with access to a mixed undead roster; that is useful perspective on one new lord, not a like-for-like comparison with all ten here. Read the Nagash campaign account.
