Hotfix 3.1 for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 was released on October 8, 2024. Its notes say it fixed heavy stutters on some CPUs and a launch issue on Linux and Steam Deck, along with several crashes and two display and upscaler problems. The wording is narrow. “Some CPUs” does not mean all stuttering was resolved, and a launch fix does not show that the game runs smoothly on Steam Deck. The game has received later updates since then, so treat Hotfix 3.1 as a record of one past build, not a description of the game today.
What Hotfix 3.1 changed
The official Space Marine 2 announcement on Steam, dated October 8, 2024, lists the following fixes:
- Several crashes.
- Heavy stutters on some CPUs.
- A launch issue on Linux and Steam Deck.
- An issue with dynamic resolution on ultrawide screens.
- Upscalers that were using incorrect resolution parameters.
SteamDB keeps a dated patch record for the game that identifies this update as build 15964586 and reproduces the same note text. SteamDB is an independent tracker and is not affiliated with Valve or Steam, so the official announcement is the authoritative source for what the patch claimed to fix, and the SteamDB entry corroborates the date and build number.

That line describes what the patch set out to fix. It is not a measured performance result, and the notes do not attach a frame-rate figure, a stutter frequency, or a list of affected CPU models to it.
Stutter: what “some CPUs” covers
The phrase “some CPUs” is the most important detail for anyone still experiencing stutter. It tells you the fix was targeted at a subset of processors, and it stops short of saying the problem was eliminated across the board. If your stutter appears on a CPU outside that subset, or if it persists after the hotfix, the notes give you no basis to expect it was addressed.

No benchmark, before-and-after comparison, or independent test quantifying the change was found in the official notes or the dated records. Readers should not assume a specific reduction in stutter from this update.
Steam Deck and Linux: a launch fix, not a performance claim
The Steam Deck and Linux item in the notes is described as a launch issue. That is a narrower claim than smooth gameplay. The notes do not state that the game was verified for Steam Deck, do not give performance targets, and do not promise that every Linux configuration will start the game.

Keep the two questions separate when you troubleshoot:
- Launch: Does the game start? Hotfix 3.1 addressed a launch issue on Linux and Steam Deck.
- Performance: Is the frame rate stable and free of stutter? Hotfix 3.1 does not establish this for Steam Deck.
Current Steam Deck launch behavior and performance on the much later game build are not established by this 2024 patch. Platform-specific reports from the current build are the only reliable guide to those.

Display and upscaler fixes
Two of the listed fixes concern how the game sets its rendering resolution. The first addresses dynamic resolution on ultrawide screens. The second addresses upscalers that were applying incorrect resolution parameters. The notes do not list which upscaling options were affected or which ultrawide aspect ratios were involved, so readers with those setups should compare their symptoms against the current patch notes rather than assume the exact scope.
Has it changed since?
Yes. Hotfix 3.1 is not the latest update. The official Steam announcements feed, checked on October 8, 2026, lists Patch 15.0 dated October 1, 2026, and a community update dated September 24, 2026. Any of those later notes may have changed the behavior described above, in either direction, so the latest notes are the place to check before drawing conclusions about your current build.
Best Value
- Valve is entering the gaming console marketplace with the new Steam Deck, a console geared towards PC gamers. The Steam Deck can be docked to a monitor, and used as a PC, or docked to a TV.
- Players can play a huge variety of games at any time with the comfort of a console and the freedom of a PC. Not anti-glare screen.
- Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
- Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
- The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.
Troubleshooting by platform
Use this table to match your situation to what Hotfix 3.1 covered and what to verify now. Where the 2024 notes say nothing about a case, the cell reads “not stated.”
| Platform | Problem you see | What Hotfix 3.1 (October 8, 2024) addressed | What to verify on your current build |
|---|---|---|---|
| Windows PC | Heavy stutter on a CPU | Stutter on some CPUs | Whether your CPU model is covered by later notes; whether the stutter is launch-related or in-game |
| Windows PC | Wrong resolution on ultrawide with dynamic resolution | Dynamic resolution issue on ultrawide screens | Current in-game resolution behavior after Patch 15.0 and later updates |
| Windows PC | Upscaler output at the wrong resolution | Upscalers using incorrect resolution parameters | Which upscaler you use and whether it has been changed since |
| Linux | Game fails to launch | Launch issue on Linux | Whether the current build launches on your distribution; “not stated” for specific distributions in the 2024 notes |
| Steam Deck | Game fails to launch | Launch issue on Steam Deck | Current launch status; the 2024 notes do not state Steam Deck verification |
| Steam Deck | Stutter or low frame rate | Not stated (the Steam Deck item concerns launch, not performance) | Current platform-specific reports; no performance result is established by this hotfix |
Practical next steps
- Open the Space Marine 2 announcements on Steam and check the newest notes, starting with Patch 15.0 dated October 1, 2026.
- Identify your platform (Windows PC, Linux, or Steam Deck) and whether your problem is a launch failure or in-game stutter.
- For stutter, confirm your CPU model against the current notes rather than assuming it falls under the 2024 “some CPUs” fix.
- If a problem persists on the current build, record your platform, build, and symptom, then compare them with platform-specific reports from the same build before concluding the issue is unresolved.
Hotfix 3.1 is a documented, dated fix with a narrow scope. It is not evidence of how the game performs on any platform today.
