A moniker in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a preset alternate name for your Arisen or Main Pawn. It can appear in place of the name you chose in certain online, language, or content-restriction situations. Check both the name and moniker before you finalize character creation: Capcom says neither can be changed afterward.
What does “moniker” mean in Dragon’s Dogma 2?
A moniker is a preset fallback name, not a second custom-name field. Players choose a custom name and a moniker for the Arisen and Main Pawn during character creation. Capcom describes the moniker as a name that may be displayed instead of the chosen name under certain conditions; Capcom’s FAQ explains when that happens.
Windows Central reports that the preset choices include options such as “Alex” and names associated with Capcom franchises, but it does not provide a complete verified list. Treat the moniker as a label that may be shown to other players, not as a gameplay upgrade: the available sources describe naming and display behavior, not any combat, stat, or quest effect.
When does the game show the English moniker?
According to Capcom’s FAQ, the English moniker can replace a pawn’s chosen name in these situations:

- You are offline: the pawn’s chosen name is not displayed, and the English moniker is used instead.
- A support pawn was created in another language: the English moniker is displayed even if your console is online.
- On PS5, user-generated-content communication is restricted: Capcom identifies the console’s “Communication and User-Generated Content” parental-control setting being set to “Restricted” as another condition for showing the English moniker. See Capcom’s FAQ and its PS5 setting guidance.
So if a support pawn’s name appears in English, that does not by itself mean anything is wrong with your language settings. The displayed moniker may be a fallback prompted by the pawn’s creator language, your connection status, or—on PS5—the specified restriction setting.
Why might a custom name be replaced?
Windows Central describes monikers as fallback names that may appear when a custom name is filtered as unsuitable. Capcom’s online conduct rules prohibit offensive, hateful, or vulgar material in publicly viewable areas and user IDs. However, these sources do not document the complete name-filter criteria or guarantee which particular names will be rejected. A replacement name is consistent with moderation, but the exact filter decision cannot be inferred from the moniker alone.

Can you change a name or moniker later?
No. Capcom says the Arisen’s and Main Pawn’s names or monikers cannot be changed once character creation is finalized. Capcom does describe ways to edit appearance and voice under certain conditions using the Art of Metamorphosis, but those edits do not make names or monikers editable. Before confirming creation, review both fields for both characters.

Because the preset moniker may be shown instead of a custom name, choose one you would be comfortable having other players see. It need not match your custom name, but a recognizable option can make the fallback less confusing. The available sources do not establish a complete list of choices or indicate that any choice changes gameplay.
