In Minecraft: Java Edition, a naturally spawned Drowned has about a 1 in 6,275 chance of dropping both a trident and a nautilus shell when killed by a player without Looting. With Looting III, the chance is about 1 in 4,638. These are calculated per-Drowned odds, not a guarantee after a set number of kills.
How the Java Edition odds work
Three events must occur for one Drowned to yield both items: it must spawn carrying a trident, spawn with a nautilus shell in its offhand, and drop its trident when killed. A held shell always drops; the trident’s drop chance is the limiting step.
The Minecraft Wiki reference lists these rates for naturally spawned Java Edition Drowned: a 6.25% chance to carry a trident, a 3% chance to carry a shell, and an 8.5% chance for a trident-bearing Drowned to drop its trident without Looting. The combined figures below are calculations from those rates, not separately published statistics.

Looting increases the conditional chance that a held trident drops; it does not increase the chance that the Drowned spawns carrying either item. The shell’s guaranteed drop applies when the Drowned is holding one.

What those odds mean in practice
Each number is the probability for one eligible Drowned under the stated Java assumptions. It does not mean that one success is assured after 6,275 kills—or after any fixed number. Individual outcomes vary, and the chance of getting both from a particular Drowned remains low even with Looting III.
The calculation is for naturally spawned Drowned. The cited reference says converted zombies do not gain the equipment needed for this calculation, so zombie-conversion farms are not equivalent to farms producing naturally spawned Drowned.

Bedrock Edition: why there is no current combined percentage here
Do not apply the Java calculation to current Bedrock Edition. The older Bedrock rates listed in the reference—15% for trident spawns and 8% for shell spawns, alongside a different conditional trident-drop rate—are not a reliable basis for a current joint-odds figure. Mojang’s Bedrock 26.0 changelog says the Drowned trident/fishing-rod spawn ratio was adjusted to match Java, but it does not state the resulting numerical percentages.
A separate version-specific change addressed how Drowned handle shells: in Bedrock 1.21.120, Mojang fixed the behavior where Drowned dropped their tridents to pick up nautilus shells. The 1.21.120 changelog says, “Drowned no longer drop Tridents to pick up Nautilus Shells.” That fix does not provide the post-26.0 spawn percentages needed to calculate a current combined chance.

Why players may want both drops
A conduit recipe requires eight nautilus shells, according to Minecraft’s official Taking Inventory: Nautilus Shell article. Drowned can provide shells and tridents, but the one-Drowned joint odds above describe getting both from the same naturally spawned mob—not the chance of collecting either item across different mobs.
