There is no single verified official shiny Gigantamax odds figure that applies across every Pokémon game or encounter. The answer depends on the game and mode: Sword and Shield Max Raid Battles and Pokémon GO Max Battles are separate systems, and official sources describe shiny availability in some cases without publishing a probability.
Why there isn’t one universal shiny Gigantamax rate
“Gigantamax” and “shiny” refer to different attributes. Gigantamax is a special capability available to certain Pokémon species and specimens; shiny describes a color variant. A Pokémon has to be eligible to Gigantamax in the game and encounter in question, and it may separately be shiny.
For Sword and Shield, The Pokémon Company says only certain species can Gigantamax and that only rare specimens among those species have the capability. It also says players can catch Gigantamax Pokémon in Max Raid Battles. The official page calls them rare but does not give a numeric shiny probability: Gigantamax Pokémon in Sword and Shield.
That distinction matters: the chance of encountering a Gigantamax-capable Pokémon is not the same as the chance that an eligible encounter is shiny. The official material cited here does not state a combined probability for those steps.

What Sword and Shield’s official raid information establishes
In a Max Raid Battle, players first have to defeat the wild Dynamax Pokémon. After a victory, each participant gets one attempt to catch it, according to The Pokémon Company’s Max Raid Battle explanation. The raid appearance, victory, capture attempt, and shiny status are distinct parts of the process; that page does not publish a shiny rate.
Event availability should not be mistaken for shiny odds. In its July 9, 2021 announcement, The Pokémon Company said Gigantamax Copperajah could be encountered very rarely during a limited Max Raid event. The notice also specified that the event did not affect Pokémon encountered in Dynamax Adventures, and it did not state a numeric shiny rate: July 2021 Max Raid event announcement.

Pokémon GO uses a separate Gigantamax system
Pokémon GO has its own Gigantamax Max Battle encounters; its odds should not be inferred from Sword and Shield. The official Pokémon GO Max Pokémon overview describes Gigantamax as a type of Dynamaxing with a changed appearance and explains the game’s Max Battle system.
A March 25, 2026 Pokémon GO event announcement said players might find a shiny Gigantamax Pikachu, but the event text did not give a probability. That establishes the possibility for the announced encounter, not a rate that can be applied to other Pokémon GO events or to Sword and Shield: March 2026 Gigantamax Pikachu event announcement.

What to check before trusting an odds claim
- Game: Is the number for Sword and Shield or Pokémon GO?
- Encounter method: Does it refer to an ordinary Max Raid, a limited event raid, a Dynamax Adventure, or a Pokémon GO Max Battle?
- What the number measures: Is it a chance per eligible encounter, per completed run, or a combined chance that includes finding a Gigantamax-capable Pokémon?
- Conditions and date: Does the claim specify relevant shiny-boosting conditions, game version, event, and when the estimate was made?
- Source: Is it an official published probability or a community/game-data estimate? The official sources cited above do not provide a universal numeric shiny Gigantamax rate.
Without those details, a one-in-X figure is easy to misapply. Treat an unofficial estimate as specific to its stated game, mode, date, and assumptions—not as an official rate for every shiny Gigantamax Pokémon.

No: The Pokémon Company’s Sword and Shield strategy article says the Gigantamax Factor does not pass down to eggs. Breeding therefore is not a way to pass on that factor: Sword and Shield strategy article.
