There is no well-supported, series-wide answer to which Mario Kart course is longest unless “longest” is defined. Physical distance, time for one lap, and total race time are different measures—and available rankings do not establish one course as the winner across all three.
What does “longest” mean?
A course can cover a great distance but take less time to drive than a tighter, more technical route. “Longest” can refer to:

- Physical distance: the measured length of the route, typically for one lap or a complete course.
- Lap duration: how long a player takes to complete one lap. This depends on the game, vehicle, route and driving skill.
- Total race duration: how long a complete race takes. In a multi-lap game, that includes several laps; courses with section-based routes may use a different format.
These measures cannot be combined into a single ranking. A time-trial leaderboard is evidence about times under its rules and strategies, not a measurement of track distance.
What the available comparisons say
Mario Kart 64 Rainbow Road: a reported distance
Super Mario Wiki identifies Mario Kart 64’s Rainbow Road as 2,000 meters long and says a lap takes about two minutes. Treat the distance as a secondary-reference figure, not an official Nintendo measurement: no official Nintendo source supporting it has been identified. The reference’s publication year is not established in the available search result. Super Mario Wiki’s Mario Kart 64 Rainbow Road entry.

Mario Kart World and Mario Kart 64: different time-based claims
A series comparison describes Mario Kart World’s Rainbow Road as the longest by lap time, while naming Mario Kart 64 Rainbow Road as longest by total time. These are separate time-based claims, not a physical-distance comparison; the available summary does not establish a standardized timing protocol that would make them a definitive series-wide ranking. The Rainbow Road comparison.
Community rankings are not distance surveys
A Mario Kart World course comparison ranks times recorded by its author and notes that results can vary by player. A Mario Kart 8 community tier list uses world-record times and describes the scope limits of its 2022 comparison. Neither method measures raw course length. Times can reflect driving ability, class, rules and shortcut choices, so a fast or slow course-time ranking should not be relabeled as a distance ranking. Can Mario Kart 8 Deluxe courses be ranked by length?
Nintendo’s official catalog lists 48 base courses in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and says the Booster Course Pass adds 48 more. It names courses, including Mount Wario, Wario Stadium and Rainbow Road, but does not publish their lengths or identify a longest course. The catalog therefore confirms which courses are included, not how their distances compare. Nintendo’s Mario Kart 8 Deluxe course catalog; Nintendo’s Booster Course Pass page.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What can be stated with confidence?
- For a reported physical-distance figure, Mario Kart 64 Rainbow Road is listed at 2,000 meters by a secondary reference; that is not an official Nintendo statistic.
- Time-based comparisons make different claims: one compilation describes Mario Kart World Rainbow Road as longest by lap time and Mario Kart 64 Rainbow Road as longest by total time.
- No consistent, directly measured distance ranking spanning the Mario Kart series is established by the available sources.
Any more definitive comparison would need to specify the game and version, distance per lap or full route, and measurement method. A time comparison would also need consistent rules, class, route strategy and race format. Without those controls, a “longest to shortest” list can answer only a narrower question than raw track length.
