The official Minecraft material reviewed does not say that the Warden physically breaks blocks to reach players. Its sonic boom can pass through obstacles, though, so a wall is not reliable protection. Wool and carpets can dampen some vibrations, but that is a stealth mechanic—not a way to block the sonic boom.
Does the Warden break blocks?
Minecraft’s official Warden overview does not describe the mob physically destroying blocks. That means the available official evidence does not establish a list of blocks it can or cannot break; it is safer not to claim that every block is immune across all editions and versions.
The important distinction is between breaking a block and attacking through it. Minecraft’s official overview says the Warden’s sonic boom “goes through obstacles.” Its April 13, 2022 Java Edition snapshot notes likewise say that hiding behind walls can cause the Warden to switch to its ranged attack, which can penetrate walls. Minecraft’s Warden article and the 22w15a snapshot notes support the point that a wall may not stop an attack; they do not say the Warden breaks through that wall.
Can a wall or obsidian keep you safe?
A wall can obstruct movement, but it should not be treated as protection from the sonic boom. The official overview describes the attack as passing through obstacles, and the snapshot notes specifically discuss it penetrating walls. The material reviewed does not establish whether obsidian or any other particular block stops the attack, so it would be misleading to call obsidian a guaranteed defense.

What do wool and carpets do?
Wool blocks and carpets dampen some vibrations, including vibrations from specified player actions. That can help with stealth because the Warden is blind and uses smell, touch, and vibrations to find prey. Dampening vibrations is not the same as blocking a sonic boom: the official sources do not say wool or carpets prevent that attack.
