For surveyed esports fandom, South Africa leads the clearest direct country comparison available: 33% of esports watchers there said they follow Call of Duty, compared with 32% in Australia and 30% in Canada. Those figures come from a December 2021 survey, reported in 2022; they are not current player counts. The available sources do not establish a reliable, all-platform ranking of which country has the most Call of Duty players.
What the country comparisons actually show
“Most popular” can mean fandom, web searches, streaming viewership, or active players. Each measures something different, so the results below should not be treated as a single ranking.
| Country or region | Measure | Result | Date and scope | What it does not show |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| South Africa | Likelihood to follow Call of Duty among esports watchers | 33% | YouGov survey conducted online in December 2021; results reported January 31, 2022 | Share of all residents who play, or current player numbers |
| Australia | Likelihood to follow Call of Duty among esports watchers | 32% | YouGov survey conducted online in December 2021; results reported January 31, 2022 | Share of all residents who play, or current player numbers |
| Canada | Likelihood to follow Call of Duty among esports watchers | 30% | YouGov survey conducted online in December 2021; results reported January 31, 2022 | Share of all residents who play, or current player numbers |
| Puerto Rico | Relative Google search interest for Call of Duty: Warzone | 100 on the index | Activeplayer.io page refreshed October 3, 2026 | Player count, franchise-wide popularity, or the number of searches; 100 marks the series’ peak |
YouGov interviewed adults aged 18 and over in 10 markets, with sample sizes ranging from 177 to 1,094 per market. Its samples were nationally representative except in India, where they represented urban residents. The comparison is useful for measured esports fandom, but it is dated and its population is esports watchers, not the general public. Read YouGov’s Call of Duty survey results.
Does this tell us where the most people play?
No. The reviewed sources do not provide a current, comparable country-by-country count of Call of Duty players across platforms. Activision/Blizzard reported that Warzone had surpassed 100 million players and that the franchise had sold over 400 million premium games through Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, released in November 2020. Those are global milestones, not country-level distributions. See Activision’s Warzone milestone announcement.

A search-interest index cannot fill that gap: it captures relative search activity, not confirmed players. Nor can Twitch channel-origin data establish where viewers or players live. Streams Charts says its country information identifies Twitch channels’ country of origin where available; it does not measure audience geography, and the public country tables surfaced here showed demo or locked data. Twitch’s 2026 State of Gaming lists the top three games by region for January 1 through September 1, 2026. Call of Duty does not appear in the published lists for the named regions. This is a limited signal about Twitch viewing during that period—not a ranking of gameplay, total fans, or interest on other platforms. Read Twitch’s 2026 State of Gaming report.

Rank #3
- Disc only. Original case and manual not included. Will come packaged in a generic case.
- This renewed game has been cleaned, tested, and shows minimal wear.
Rank #2
- A TEAM SPORT, NOT A TOSS GAME. Two teams play at the same time. One side attacks the pole, the other defends and intercepts. First to eleven, win by two.
- OFFENSE AND DEFENSE, LIVE. Passing, interceptions, turnovers, rebounds and penalty shots. Possession changes constantly, so the game moves instead of taking turns.
- BUILT FOR FOUR TO TEN. Flexible team sizes from two-a-side to five-a-side. Best with six or more.
- MOST GROUPS LEARN IT AS THEY PLAY. Rules take about two minutes. Because the format is new, the skill gap is much shorter than in an established sport.
- SETUP IS ABOUT THREE MINUTES, ANY FLAT SURFACE. Grass, turf, sand or gym, with no out-of-bounds. Collapsible pole, penalty zone, sport disc and carry bag. Replacement parts available.
How to interpret the answer
- For surveyed esports fandom: South Africa leads the cited comparison, followed by Australia and Canada.
- For Warzone search interest: Puerto Rico is listed at 100 on a relative index, where 100 is the peak of that series—not 100 players or searches. The result is a secondary proxy, and the Activeplayer.io page was not directly accessible when assessed. See Activeplayer.io’s Warzone statistics page.
- For player counts: These sources do not establish which country has the most Call of Duty players.
