Call of Duty: Mobile officially supports Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S controllers, PlayStation 4 DUALSHOCK 4 controllers except first-generation units, PlayStation 5 DualSense controllers, and Backbone One. Controller support is for Multiplayer and Battle Royale matches; use your phone or tablet’s touch controls to navigate menus.
Which controllers are officially supported?
Activision’s current supported-controller list names these models and families:
- Xbox One controllers
- Xbox Series X|S controllers
- PlayStation 4 DUALSHOCK 4 controllers, except first-generation units
- PlayStation 5 DualSense controllers
- Backbone One controllers
The PS4 exception matters: Activision does not say that every DUALSHOCK 4 works. It also does not list every PlayStation controller or every Backbone model as supported. Other third-party controllers may work, but Activision says they are not officially supported. A controller pairing successfully with your device does not guarantee that the game will recognize it.
Where can you use a controller?
Activision says controllers work in Multiplayer and Battle Royale. They are for gameplay in matches, not navigating the game’s lobbies, settings, loadouts, or other menus; use the device’s native controls outside a match. How to connect and enable a controller
Activision’s listed setup uses Bluetooth. Some devices may also support a direct wired controller, but connection options depend on your phone or tablet.
- Put your controller into pairing mode. For Xbox One, Activision’s instructions say to hold the Xbox and Sync buttons until the controller vibrates. For PS4, hold Share and PS until the light blinks. Button-by-button pairing instructions are not provided there for every supported model.
- Turn on Bluetooth in your phone or tablet’s settings, then select the controller from the available devices.
- Open Call of Duty: Mobile, tap the gear icon, then go to Controller > Settings and choose Enable Controller Support.
- Use the Controller menu to adjust controls for each game mode. If the controller disconnects after the device sits idle, reconnect it and check that Controller Support remains enabled.
These steps and the wired-connection caveat come from Activision’s pairing instructions.

How controller matchmaking works
Using a controller affects matchmaking: a solo player using one is matched with controller players, and a party that includes a controller user is also matched with controller players. Activision explains this in its controller matchmaking guidance.

If you want the clearest official compatibility, choose a model from Activision’s named list and verify the exact model before buying. Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S controllers, PS5 DualSense, and Backbone One are listed; for PS4, avoid first-generation DUALSHOCK 4 units.

Backbone’s help center also identifies Call of Duty: Mobile as a compatible game, but Activision specifically names Backbone One—not every Backbone product. Backbone’s general product page for Backbone Pro does not establish official COD: Mobile support for that model. Likewise, generic Bluetooth controllers are a gamble: Activision says third-party options may work but are not officially supported. Check your device’s connector and current regional product listing as well as the controller’s exact model.
