Put the Blue Potato, Blue Shell, Blue Book, Blue Starfish, and Blue Gem into the five slots in the Shimmering Water Pool in the Vitalys Mines. Keep the Blue Potato in your inventory while you find the other four items. Filling all five slots gives you the Brilliant Blue Potion.
Where to find the five items
The Shimmering Water Pool is part of the Blue Potato puzzle, not a fishing spot or a place for ordinary ingredients. The five required items and their route cues are:
- Blue Potato: Keep it in your inventory while searching for the other four items. In particular, the Blue Shell will not appear unless you are carrying it.
- Blue Shell — Moana’s Realm: From the entrance, go forward and take the right-side opening between the palm trees. Keep right around the rocks in the water until you reach a small island. Look in the sand behind a large rock.
- Blue Book — Mystical Cave, Dazzle Beach: Go to the lowest level and cross the rocks in the water. The book is behind the stone archway to the left of the pool.
- Blue Starfish — Ariel’s area: Take the boat from Dazzle Beach to the area where you recruited Ariel. Follow the left side of the water route, pass through the opening in the barrier toward the island, and look on the shore.
- Blue Gem — Vitalys Mines: Go deeper into the mines along the broken railway. At the fork before the tunnel with purple mushrooms, turn left. Cross the large Night Thorn bridge; the gem is on the ground near a minecart.
The mine has no in-game map, so use the railway, mushroom tunnel, bridge, and minecart as landmarks. Route directions are from Dot Esports’ Brilliant Blue Potion walkthrough, last updated December 17, 2025.
How to use the items
- Carry the Blue Potato in your inventory while collecting the Blue Shell, Blue Book, Blue Starfish, and Blue Gem.
- Return to the Shimmering Water Pool in the Vitalys Mines.
- Place all five blue items into the pool’s slots, then collect the Brilliant Blue Potion.
The Blue Potato requirement for finding the Blue Shell is also noted by the Dreamlight Valley Wiki’s Blue Shell reference.
