In Ranch Simulator, what you do with crops depends on how you grow them. Small plots let you plant bought seeds, tend the plants, and harvest by hand. Crops from the large ranch fields are harvested with a tractor and the right attachment; the official crop update says grain can be sold or stored in a granary to feed livestock.
Small crop plots: plant, tend, and harvest by hand
Small plots are the simpler, hands-on option. The Steam Community crop guide, published October 13, 2023, describes plots that hold one seed in a small plot or two seeds in a large plot; the two seeds can be different types. Those capacity and interaction details come from a community guide and may vary with game updates.
- Build a plot. Choose a small or large crop plot.
- Buy and plant seeds. Get seeds from the General Store, pick up a packet, then press E at the plot, according to the community guide.
- Water the crop while it grows. The guide describes watering with a bucket or placing a sprinkler in or near the plot. It also describes fertilizer as a growth aid; check the current game version for how these items work.
- Harvest when ready. The guide says to press E to harvest.
To plant something else, remove the existing plant if needed to free the plot. The guide says cabbage cannot be harvested more than once, but that crop-specific detail has not been confirmed in current official documentation.
Large fields: harvest with tractor equipment
The Ranch Sim Team’s December 1, 2022 crop update notes describe a mechanized workflow for the ranch’s three farming fields. Use a tractor to cultivate and seed them, then attach a header suited to the crop: sunflower, corn, or grain. A fertilizer trailer is also listed in the update.
#1 Best Overall
- Use the tractor to cultivate and seed a field.
- Attach the matching sunflower, corn, or grain header to the harvester.
- Harvest the crop and empty the harvester into a grain trailer.
- Take the harvested grain to sell it or store it in a granary for livestock feed.
The original update notes that buildings in the field areas may need to be moved. That instruction dates to the fields’ introduction, so check the current layout and in-game prompts before relocating buildings.
What can you do with the harvest?
Sell or store large-field grain
For grain harvested from the large fields, the official update establishes two uses: sell it at the store for cash, or put it in a granary to provide feed for livestock. It does not establish which choice pays better overall.

Small-plot produce
The community guide explains how to harvest small-plot crops but does not document a definitive current processing chain. A 2025 comment on that guide reports selling large crops at shops and putting wheat in a grain silo; that is an individual player report, not official confirmation. The comment thread’s suggestion that crops can be turned into products such as wine is not established, so do not rely on it as a documented use.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which crop system should you use?
| System | What you do | Documented harvest use |
|---|---|---|
| Small plots | Buy seeds, plant, tend, and harvest by hand; mechanics here are described in an October 2023 community guide. | Harvesting is documented by the guide, but a definitive current processing or sale chain is not established. |
| Large fields | Use a tractor, crop-specific harvester header, and grain trailer, as described in the December 2022 official update. | Sell grain or store it in a granary as livestock feed. |
Pick small plots for direct, hands-on growing. Use the large fields if you want mechanized farming and the officially documented choice between selling grain and feeding livestock. There is no verified current comparison of crop profits, yields, or time efficiency, so the available evidence does not support naming a most profitable crop or route.
