What Do You Spend Credits On in The Division 2? E-Credits vs Premium Credits

In The Division 2, ordinary E-Credits fund item stat changes through Tinkering, while Premium Credits buy cosmetics and season passes. Here is how to tell them apart and what the official sources confirm.

The answer depends on which currency you hold. In The Division 2, ordinary E-Credits are a gameplay currency, mainly used for item upgrades and stat changes through the crafting and tinkering systems. Premium Credits are a store currency, used for optional cosmetics and paid season content. Spending them on the wrong thing is the most common mistake, so identify your balance first.

Check which currency you have

The game uses two different balances, and the official sources treat them separately. Ordinary E-Credits come from play and feed systems inside the game world. Premium Credits are bought with real money or otherwise sit in the premium store. Advice that applies to one does not carry over to the other.

Ordinary E-Credits: gameplay spending

Ubisoft’s Player Level infographic (2019) describes the recalibration bench, where agents pay credits and materials to change an item’s stat. That is the clearest documented use of ordinary credits.

A later update, Ubisoft’s Year 5 Season 3 press release (2024), states that the Recalibration and Optimization features were combined into a single menu called Tinkering. In the current menu structure, Tinkering is therefore where ordinary credits are spent on item changes. The exact costs, available options, and vendor stock are shown in your own game and were not listed in the official material reviewed, so check them there before committing a large balance.

Premium Credits: store spending

Premium Credits are used in the in-game store. Ubisoft’s store listing for Premium Credits (2019, page crawled more recently) names outfits, emotes, and weapon skins as purchasable items. These are cosmetic. They do not change gear stats.

Premium Credits also pay for season content. Ubisoft’s The Division 2: Crossroads update (2025) lists an optional Premium Season Pass at 1,000 Premium Credits in that update. That price belongs to that season and may not match current or future passes.

Textiles as an alternative route

Ubisoft’s New Options for Obtaining Apparel Caches post (2020) described Textiles as a way to buy most items in the in-game store directly, with Premium Credits still available as an option for cosmetics. Eligibility depends on the specific item, so confirm the purchase options shown on that item’s store page.

Side-by-side summary

Currency Main use Documented examples Source and date
Ordinary E-Credits (with materials) Item stat changes via recalibration, now under Tinkering Changing an item’s stat at the recalibration bench Player Level infographic (2019); Year 5 Season 3 press release (2024)
Premium Credits Optional store purchases Outfits, emotes, weapon skins Ubisoft Store listing (2019)
Premium Credits (season content) Season pass purchase Premium Season Pass at 1,000 Premium Credits Crossroads update (2025); price is for that update only
Textiles Alternative route to buy eligible store items Most in-game store items, per Ubisoft Apparel Caches post (2020); eligibility not stated for every item

How to decide what to spend on

  • E-Credits: open Tinkering and spend only on an upgrade you plan to keep. Confirm the current cost in the menu first.
  • Premium Credits: decide whether a specific outfit, emote, weapon skin, or season pass is worth the price to you. Check the live store, since offerings and prices change.
  • Textiles: check the item’s store page before buying, since not every item is listed as purchasable with Textiles.

The official sources reviewed do not provide a complete, current list of E-Credit vendor items or a single best spending order for every player. Those details depend on the game version and your progress, so the in-game menus are the reliable reference.
