Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsYou need the Red Gem to reach Native Fortress’s hidden cloud path, which is where you collect the boxes required for the level’s Clear Gem. You can finish the stage without it, but you cannot collect every box until you return with the Red Gem. In the standard release, the Red Gem is earned in Slippery Climb first.
How to get the Red Gem and go back for the boxes
- Play through Slippery Climb and earn the Red Gem there, following the standard-release route described in the Prima Games guide and StrategyWiki’s Crash Bandicoot Native Fortress page.
- Return to Native Fortress after you have the Red Gem.
- Use the Red Gem path to reach the hidden cloud section, which contains boxes that are not reachable on your first run.
- Destroy every box in the level to earn the Clear Gem, the reward for a full box clear.
Why the Red Gem matters for the Clear Gem
The Prima Games guide to the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy version of the level counts 48 boxes in Native Fortress, with 11 of them on the Red Gem path. Those 11 are the reason the Red Gem is tied to the Clear Gem. Reaching the level exit does not depend on that path, so a player who only wants to finish the stage can skip it. The 48-box total is specific to that Prima guide and its N. Sane Trilogy release; do not assume the same count applies to every version.

Version differences: standard release versus Japanese version
Bandipedia lists Native Fortress as a level in both the original Crash Bandicoot and the N. Sane Trilogy. Its entry notes one exception: in the Japanese version, the red gem is located in The Lost City instead of Slippery Climb. Check which release you are playing before following a location.
| Release | Where the Red Gem is earned | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Standard release | Slippery Climb | Prima Games guide; StrategyWiki |
| Japanese version | The Lost City | Bandipedia |
The sources reviewed do not establish the Red Gem location for other regional releases, so treat the table as covering only the two versions named above.

Source notes
The Prima Games guide’s publication date was not shown in the retrieved material, so its 48-box count should be read as the guide’s own figure rather than a dated measurement. No official developer or publisher statement on the gem requirement was found; the information here comes from fan and guide references.
