If you use your real name on Roblox, other users may be able to see it if it appears in your username or display name. That can make it easier to connect your account to you, especially if you share other identifying details. It does not mean harm will definitely happen, but Roblox advises against putting your own name or personal information in your username and recommends keeping personal details private.
Can people see your real name on Roblox?
Roblox says both usernames and display names are visible on Roblox and in associated experiences. If either contains your real name, other users who encounter your account may see it. A name alone does not necessarily reveal who you are offline, but it can help someone connect your account to you when combined with details such as your school, location, or profiles elsewhere.
Roblox’s Privacy and Cookie Policy says, “Do not use your own name or other Personal Information in your username.” The same policy says, “We don’t use your username to identify you outside of your activity on Roblox.” That statement describes Roblox’s use of usernames; it does not prevent other users from making connections based on information they can see or that you share.
Username vs. display name: what is the difference?
A username is the account’s username. A display name is a separate name shown to other users. Roblox says both are visible on the platform and associated experiences, so using a display name instead of a username does not make a real name private.

Can you change a real name on your Roblox profile?
If it is your display name
Open account settings and use the display-name change option. Roblox’s Changing Your Display Name page says a display name can be changed once every seven days and must follow Roblox’s rules. The page’s instructions apply to display names, not usernames.
If it is your username
Do not assume the display-name process also changes your username. Check Roblox’s current username-change support instructions for the applicable process and rules; the official materials cited here do not establish the eligibility, cost, or limits for username changes.

What should you do if someone asks for your real name?
Do not provide it, along with your school, home location, or other personal details. Roblox’s parent guidance advises children to stop chatting and tell an adult if another user asks for such information.
- End the conversation and tell a parent or trusted adult, especially if you are a child.
- Use Roblox’s reporting tools for suspicious requests. Log in and make account changes only through the official Roblox site or app, and never share your password or other account credentials.
- Keep conversations on Roblox rather than moving them to another platform. Roblox warns that off-platform conversations can expose more personal information and make reports harder to investigate; see its safety guidance.
How to reduce exposure in your account
If you are concerned about who can reach you, review Roblox’s privacy and account-safety settings and limit who can chat or interact with you. Roblox’s safety tools overview describes controls for online status, chat and interactions, ad-personalization data, and accessing or deleting data. Available tools and age-based protections may vary by region.

Roblox’s privacy policy allows eligible users to use certain personal information in display names. That allowance is not a safety recommendation: Roblox’s general safety guidance still cautions users against sharing personal information.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does using your real name guarantee a problem?
No. Official materials do not establish that every real-name username or display name leads to unwanted contact, identity theft, or offline identification, and they do not quantify the likelihood of harm. The concern is that visible identifying information can make it easier to connect an account to a person, particularly when combined with other details. Keeping your name and other personal information private reduces what other users can learn from your account.
