Splitgate 2 launched on June 6, 2025, but returned to beta that summer after player feedback. On December 17, 2025, it relaunched as SPLITGATE: Arena Reloaded, with a renewed focus on arena combat. In August 2026, 1047 Games said it was stopping work on Arena Reloaded and Empulse; reporting said dedicated servers and matchmaking were due to end September 3, with peer-to-peer play retained. The studio’s next game has not been announced.
What “unlaunched” meant for Splitgate 2
“Unlaunched” describes a rollback, not the permanent end of the game. After Splitgate 2’s June 6, 2025 launch, 1047 Games returned it to beta during the summer. The studio said it was responding to player feedback, revisiting systems that had missed expectations, and refocusing on arena-shooter fans. It then relaunched the revised game as SPLITGATE: Arena Reloaded on December 17, 2025. The official launch overview and December update describe the reset and relaunch.

What changed in Arena Reloaded
The redesign moved away from Splitgate 2’s faction-and-ability structure toward the arena-shooter style associated with the original game.
- Factions, abilities, and selected equipment were removed.
- Maps gained pickups and powerups, alongside tools intended to counter portal play and portal trails.
- The update adjusted controller and aiming behavior, slightly lengthened time-to-kill, and included performance work.
- Five new arenas brought the relaunch’s total to 20.
1047 Games said more than 150,000 players tried Arena Reloaded during its first five days. That is a developer-reported launch-period trial count, not a measure of how many people continued playing or how many play now. The figure appears in the studio’s December 24, 2025 update.

The original Splitgate and Arena Reloaded had separate service transitions. The original game’s hosted servers shut down in mid-August 2025, before Arena Reloaded launched. Peer-to-peer networking remained available, but the official FAQ and Player Support FAQ say features including achievements, the store, and the battle pass no longer functioned after that change.
| Game and date | What changed | What remained |
|---|---|---|
| Original Splitgate, mid-August 2025 | Hosted servers shut down; some online systems, including the store and battle pass, stopped functioning. | Peer-to-peer play remained available. |
| Arena Reloaded, announced August 31, 2026 | 1047 Games said work was stopping; PC Gamer reported dedicated servers and matchmaking were scheduled to end September 3, 2026. | PC Gamer reported peer-to-peer play would remain for players to host matches and play with friends. The report described the announced plan, not independent confirmation of the completed transition. |
Why 1047 Games stopped work on Arena Reloaded
PC Gamer reported on August 31, 2026, that 1047 Games was stopping work on Arena Reloaded and Empulse because neither game generated enough revenue to cover dedicated-server costs. The report quoted the studio: “The reality is that neither game is generating enough revenue to support the ongoing cost of dedicated servers.” No revenue amount was given, and the available reporting does not establish a current player count.
The same report said dedicated servers and matchmaking would end September 3, 2026, while peer-to-peer support would be retained. Because this is a reported plan, it does not by itself confirm that every service changed on schedule. Check the game’s current official channels for its live service status.
What happens next for 1047 Games
PC Gamer reported that the studio would remain operational but that its focus was changing. 1047 Games’ next project has not been identified in the available reporting: there is no confirmed new Splitgate, release date, or commitment to return to arena shooters. The studio said its next game “may look very different from what people expect.”
