What relationship types can you choose?
The Official Date Everything! Wiki describes three endings for each Dateable: Love, Friendship, and Hate. The wiki’s Endings page gives the broad outcome structure.

Which type should you choose?
Choose Love for romance or Mate Everything
If you want to pursue a romantic relationship, Love is the straightforward fit. It is also the target for the Mate Everything achievement: the Official Wiki guide describes it as earning all 100 base-game Love endings in a single playthrough. The achievement guide mentions a Content Aware feature that can skip to Love endings for a subset of Dateables, but consult the current guide and game version before relying on its controls or coverage.
Choose Friendship for a platonic connection
If romance is not what you want from a character, Friendship is the natural alternative where that route is supported. There is no evidence that Friendship is a lesser outcome; it serves a different player preference. Some players may favor it for particular characters, but that is a personal, route-specific judgment rather than a universal rule.

Choose Hate only if that outcome interests you
Hate is one of the three broad endings, so it is a valid route outcome for players who want to see it. The available evidence does not support recommending it as the best choice overall or assigning it a particular character’s “true” outcome.
Why the best outcome can vary by character
Route choices are not governed by one universal dialogue rule. The unofficial Date Everything Guide describes character-specific requirements involving SPECS—Smarts, Poise, Empathy, Charm, and Sass. Those requirements mean the route and character matter; do not assume the same choices will produce the same outcome for every Dateable.

The fan guide also describes Realization as a later outcome involving affinity, SPECS, and character-specific storylines, in addition to Love, Friendship, and Hate. Treat it as separate from the three broad ending labels, and check a current route guide for precise conditions rather than assuming a universal method.

Date Everything! is described on the official game website as a sandbox dating simulator featuring 100 fully voice-acted datable characters. With that many characters and individualized routes, the useful answer to “best” is the one that matches what you want from each relationship—not one outcome applied to everyone.
