Niantic Kids is now called Kids @ Scopely Explore (formerly Niantic Kids). It is an online parent portal for verifying parental consent and managing a child’s privacy settings and permission requests across participating Scopely Explore games. It is not a game, a device, or a single account that works everywhere. A parent creates the account, proves their identity, and then decides what each participating game may access for the child.
What the portal does
The portal is the place where a parent handles a child’s participation in Scopely Explore titles. Its published workflow has four parts: create a parent account, verify identity, manage the child’s privacy settings, and review the child’s requests for game or information access. When a game asks for access to information, the parent is notified and can allow or deny the request. Nothing in the portal plays a game; the games themselves are separate apps.
Name and current status
The company behind the portal was formerly known as Niantic, and its Scopely Explore privacy policy says the policies were updated to reflect that change. The current portal is labeled Kids @ Scopely Explore, and its privacy policy describes it as “Kids @ Scopely Explore (formerly Niantic Kids).” An older Niantic web address still reaches the service, but the current official site and privacy policy identify it as part of Scopely Explore. This article uses the current name and keeps “Niantic Kids” for search clarity.
How the setup works
- Create a parent account in the Kids @ Scopely Explore portal.
- Complete identity verification. The method depends on where you live (see the next section).
- Open the child’s profile and review the privacy settings for that child.
- When a participating game requests access to information, check the notification and allow or deny the request.
Because approval happens request by request, a parent who denies a permission can still keep the child’s account in place in games where the child is allowed to play, although the games’ own behavior when a permission is refused should be checked in each game.

They are location-specific service instructions, not universal fees, and they should not be read as recurring charges. Check the portal before you start, because these details can change.

- European Economic Area: under 16, or the applicable local age of consent.
- South Korea: under 14.
- Elsewhere: under 13, or the locally applicable age.
Consent and eligibility are separate questions. A parent’s consent matters only where the game permits child participation at all.

What data is collected
Parental consent does not mean that no data is collected. The company’s current policy says that for participating child accounts it may collect:
- an in-game username and internal account identifiers;
- a child’s personal email address, but only with parent permission and only where one is available;
- device location and other personal data described in the policy, which is needed to operate the game.
The portal explains that location is necessary for location-based gameplay and for placing in-game resources such as PokéStops. The portal’s own wording points readers to the policy for the full picture: “You can review our Privacy Policy for more details on what personal information we collect and how we use and process the information.” That is the portal’s statement, not an individual’s quotation.

Deleting data and accounts
Parents can review a child’s personal data, request its deletion, and refuse further collection, use, or disclosure by contacting the operator. The portal also lets you delete a parent account or a child profile. Those are different actions from deleting a game account:
- Portal deletion removes the parent account or child profile in Kids @ Scopely Explore.
- Game-account deletion is a separate process. Deleting the portal profile does not delete a Pokémon GO account or its gameplay data. The portal directs parents to the game-account process for that.
If the goal is to end a child’s play in a game, remove the game account as well as the portal profile.

Who runs the portal
Kids Web Services (KWS) operates the portal on the company’s behalf and handles parent verification under its own privacy policy. The portal states that KWS is certified by the kidSAFE Seal Program and is ESRB Privacy Certified. Those are the portal’s stated credentials. The sources reviewed do not include an independent evaluation of every safeguard in the system, so treat the certifications as claims made by the portal rather than as a full audit.
Before you set up an account
- Confirm whether the child’s game is open to child accounts, and which regional age rule applies.
- Check which verification route your location uses and the current amount, if any, shown in the portal.
- Read the game’s data notes, especially location use, before approving requests.
- Keep portal deletion and game-account deletion separate in your plan.
The portal is best understood as a consent and permissions tool that sits in front of specific games, not as a children’s account that works across Scopely Explore.
