Avoid common passwords and anything based on your username. Roblox’s current support guidance does not specify a required password length or character mix, so there is no verified basis here for claiming that a particular number of characters, capital letters, digits, or symbols is mandatory.
What makes a Roblox password good?
- Use it only for Roblox. If another account is compromised, a unique password helps prevent that password from being used to access Roblox. Roblox recommends choosing a password you have not used on other websites. Roblox Support’s account-safety guidance also recommends considering a password manager to generate and store strong, unique passwords.
- Make it hard to guess. Avoid common passwords, personal details, and any part of your Roblox username. Roblox warns that common passwords and username-based passwords are easy to guess.
- Keep it private. Do not share your password, browser cookies, 2-step verification codes, or backup codes with anyone or enter them on a site reached through a suspicious offer or survey.
A password manager can create a distinct password for Roblox and store it so you do not have to reuse or memorize it. If you create one yourself, choose something unpredictable that you do not use elsewhere.
Does Roblox require a certain password length or character mix?
Roblox’s reviewed support articles recommend a strong, unique password but do not state a current minimum length or required combination of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, or symbols. A Roblox Parent and Caregiver Guide includes a signup-screen illustration labelled “At least 8 characters,” but that illustration alone does not establish the current enforced rule. Do not treat eight characters—or any other specific length or character recipe—as a confirmed Roblox requirement.
How can you make your Roblox account harder to lose?
Add a recovery email or phone number
Attach an email address or phone number that the account owner can access. Roblox’s password reset instructions explain that self-service reset uses the email address or phone number attached to the account. If neither is attached, self-service reset is unavailable; contact Roblox Support and be prepared to verify account ownership.

Turn on 2-step verification
Roblox requires a verified email address to enable 2-step verification. Its 2-step verification guidance describes authenticator-app, email, and security-key methods, along with backup codes and recovery options. Set up recovery methods you can actually use and keep backup codes somewhere private. Roblox says that if you lose your primary verification method, recovery requires two different verification methods in your account details.
Consider passkeys or Enhanced Protection
Roblox supports passkeys as an alternative sign-in method and says they help protect against phishing and credential-stuffing attacks. Roblox’s passkey guide describes how to use them. Enhanced Protection is an additional option with specific prerequisites: a passkey, a verified email, and either a verified phone number or backup codes. When it is enabled, password sign-ins still require a passkey or hardware-security-key challenge. See Roblox’s Enhanced Protection guidance for the current setup details.

Which extra sign-in method should you choose?
| Method | What to consider |
|---|---|
| Authenticator app | Roblox lists this as a 2-step verification option. Make sure you can access the app and have recovery methods ready if you lose the device. |
| Email verification code | Roblox lists email as a 2-step verification option. It depends on continued access to the verified email account. |
| Security key | Roblox supports security keys for applicable account-protection flows. A FIDO2-compatible key, such as the YubiKey 5 or Google Titan Security Key examples named by Roblox, is optional; confirm compatibility with your device, browser, and Roblox account settings before choosing one. |
| Passkey | Roblox supports passkeys as an alternative sign-in method and uses one as a prerequisite for Enhanced Protection. Check that you can access the device or passkey provider associated with your account. |
| Backup codes and recovery details | These are important if you lose your usual verification method. Store codes securely and keep account recovery details current. |
What should you do if you forgot your Roblox password?
- Open Roblox’s Forgot My Password instructions and use the reset option for the email address or phone number attached to your account.
- If no email address or phone number is attached, contact Roblox Support and follow its account-ownership verification process.
- After regaining access, set a new password that is unique to Roblox, then add or verify recovery details and review your 2-step verification methods.
