There is no evidence-backed profession that is universally best for a Shadow Priest. Choose according to what you want your character to do—craft items, gather materials, or support your in-game economy—and check your World of Warcraft edition before following a profession guide. The available official sources do not establish a Shadow-specific combat or gold-making advantage for any profession.
Why Shadow specialization does not decide the answer
Blizzard describes Shadow as a Priest damage specialization that uses Shadow and Void magic against enemies. Its Priest overview does not recommend a profession or identify a profession bonus for Shadow Priests. The class description, by itself, therefore cannot determine which profession is best.
Choose by what you want from a profession
Crafting
Choose a crafting profession if your priority is making items for your character or for other players. The available profession-equipment guide discusses crafting stats such as skill, ingenuity, multicraft, resourcefulness, and crafting speed, but it covers The War Within. Those details should not be assumed to describe Midnight mechanics. See the profession equipment guide.
Gathering
Choose gathering if you prefer collecting materials while playing in the world. The same The War Within-specific guide describes gathering stats including finesse, perception, and deftness; it is not evidence that those stats or their effects apply in Midnight.

Self-sufficiency, convenience, or earning gold
Start with your own goal: making items for yourself, reducing reliance on the market, or producing goods to sell. The available official class and profession sources do not show that Shadow specialization gives one profession a combat or gold-making edge. They also do not establish a gold-per-hour winner for Shadow Priests.
Check your World of Warcraft edition first
Profession rules and recommendations are edition- and expansion-specific. The sources available here cover distinct contexts, not one interchangeable set of advice:

- Retail Midnight: Blizzard’s September 30, 2026 class article discusses Priest updates, including Shadow-focused damage, but does not connect them to professions. Official Armory achievements list Midnight profession categories, including crafting and gathering professions; they do not rank those professions for Shadow Priests.
- The War Within: The profession-equipment guide above describes profession equipment and stats for that expansion. Treat it as expansion-specific information rather than a Midnight recommendation.
- The Burning Crusade Classic: The available Shadow Priest profession guide is explicitly for TBC Classic. Its advice should not be carried over to retail Midnight as if the editions shared the same profession systems.
Blizzard’s Priest overview provides class context, but no profession recommendation. For a decision in a particular edition, compare what each profession can produce or collect there, whether those outputs serve your character or are intended for sale, the time and gold you want to invest, and whether you enjoy crafting or gathering.
