Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFor a mercenary’s endgame Insight, aim for a four-socket ethereal elite polearm that the mercenary can equip. There is no single best base for every build: weigh its damage, attack speed, and strength and dexterity requirements against your mercenary’s gear. For a first or leveling Insight, use a suitable four-socket polearm sooner rather than holding out for an ideal endgame item.
Check the recipe and base before using runes
Insight requires exactly four sockets and the runes Ral + Tir + Tal + Sol, inserted in that order. The D2R Mythos item reference lists polearms, staves, and missile weapons as eligible categories; this guide focuses on polearms. Its listing reports a level 12–17 Meditation aura and identifies its item data as Diablo II: Resurrected build 3.3.93847, Reign of the Warlock. That is the database’s reported version, not an independent in-game verification. D2R Mythos: Insight
- Confirm the base is an eligible polearm and has four sockets.
- Check that the mercenary can equip it before committing the runes.
- Insert the runes in the specified order; a wrong base, socket count, or sequence will not produce Insight.
Choose by when you need Insight
First or leveling Insight
If your immediate goal is Meditation’s mana support, use the first appropriate eligible four-socket polearm available for your progression. Waiting for an ethereal elite base can delay that benefit; replacing the weapon with a stronger base later is an option.
Mercenary endgame Insight
A four-socket ethereal elite polearm is a strong general target when your mercenary meets its attribute requirements. Elite bases offer higher-tier weapon damage, and ethereal weapons have increased damage and reduced requirements, according to the legacy Arreat Summit item references. Those properties make this combination attractive for a mercenary, but they do not establish one elite base as universally superior. Return to fight for Sanctuary and discover the fate of the mysterious Dark Wanderer rebuilt in all-new 3D graphics, brand-new cinematics, remastered audio… and the same classic Diablo II gameplay you remember.
Insight equipped by your character
Be cautious about choosing an ethereal base for a player character that relies on weapon durability. Ethereal items cannot be repaired by ordinary means, so consider how the weapon will be used before making it.

Compare the actual candidate items rather than relying on a universal ranking. The available references establish general item properties, but do not provide current, setup-specific mercenary breakpoint analysis that would make one named base the best in every case.

| Factor | What to check |
|---|---|
| Eligibility | It must be an eligible polearm with exactly four sockets for this recipe. |
| Damage | Compare the displayed base damage. Elite bases are generally the stronger direction when mercenary weapon damage is the goal. |
| Attack speed | Consider the base’s speed alongside the mercenary’s equipment and attack breakpoints. A faster base is not automatically best in every setup. |
| Requirements | Check strength and dexterity against the mercenary’s attributes and gear. Ethereal items have lower requirements, but the specific item still has to be equippable. |
| Timing | If Meditation now is more valuable than optimizing damage later, a suitable available base may be the practical choice. |
The Arreat Summit polearm table is a legacy reference, not a current D2R patch source. Use it for general base-item comparison, not as proof of a current, setup-specific winner.
