The command sets the weather in your world to clear, stopping rain, snow, and thunderstorms. It works in both Java Edition and Bedrock Edition, provided commands are enabled and you have permission to use them.
How to enter the command
- Open the chat window. In Java Edition and Bedrock Edition, press the T key by default to open chat, or press / to open it with a slash already entered.
- Type /weather clear and press Enter.
- The weather changes immediately. If it does not, or the game reports that it does not recognize the command, check the access requirements below.
Minecraft’s official guide, “How to Use Commands in Minecraft” (Minecraft.net, published 2023-09-22), gives the general syntax as /weather <clear/rain/thunder> and states that /weather clear will set the weather to clear.
Making sure commands are allowed
Most failures come from access settings, not from the syntax. Check the following before assuming the command is wrong.
- Java single-player: the world must have been created with the “Allow Commands” option turned on. Minecraft’s official guide describes this setting at world creation.
- Bedrock: cheats must be enabled for the world, and the player needs operator-command access. Microsoft Learn’s weather command reference lists the required permission as Game Directors.
- Multiplayer servers: you need operator or equivalent permission from the server owner. A server can block commands for regular players even when the command is valid.
In Bedrock, enabling cheats disables achievements for that world. Turn cheats on only for worlds where that trade-off is acceptable.

Bedrock syntax and optional duration
Bedrock’s command reference (Microsoft Learn, “weather Command,” Bedrock stable) gives the full form as /weather <type: WeatherType> [duration: int]. The accepted types are clear, rain, and thunder. The duration is optional, and you can leave it out when you only want the weather cleared. The same reference notes that rain can appear as snow in cold biomes.
If you want the clear weather to hold for a set period, Microsoft Learn’s “Popular Commands” guide (Bedrock stable, last updated 2025-06-05) states that duration is measured in game ticks, with 20 ticks equal to one second. It also advises setting the gamerule doweathercycle to false if you plan to rely on the specified duration, since otherwise the weather may change on its own schedule.

Do not confuse it with /clear
The similar-looking /clear command is unrelated to weather. In Bedrock, it removes items from a player’s inventory. To change the weather, use /weather clear and nothing else.
