Need for Speed: Most Wanted Black Edition is a special edition of the 2005 game, not a different career or story. Its documented extras are eight bonus cars, three tracks, unique vinyls, and a Black Edition Challenge; the primary career mode is described as the same as in the standard edition.
What Black Edition adds
A 2006 Black Edition FAQ and walkthrough reports four categories of extras:
| # | Preview | Product | Price | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 |
|
Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Black Edition (Renewed) | $122.06 | Buy on Amazon |
| 2 |
|
Need for Speed: Most Wanted (Greatest Hits) | $30.70 | Buy on Amazon |
| 3 |
|
Need for Speed: Most Wanted (Black Edition) - PlayStation 2 | $299.95 | Buy on Amazon |
- Eight additional bonus cars
- Three additional tracks
- Unique vinyls
- A Black Edition Challenge
The FAQ does not provide a complete, verified item-by-item catalog of the cars, tracks, or vinyls. The counts and additions should therefore be treated as the FAQ’s account, rather than an exhaustive official EA specification.
Is the career mode different?
No major career difference is documented. The FAQ states that “the primary career mode is the same in both the Black and standard editions.” The Black Edition Challenge is an extra, but the available description does not establish that it changes the main career.
#1 Best Overall
- Combines illicit street racing and tuner customization to challenge you to become the most notorious and elusive street racer
- Feel the thrill of the chase in a dynamic open world as you go head-to-head with drivers who customize their cars
- Get access to more cars and races, in addition to engaging in more intense police pursuits on your way to becoming the Most Wanted
- Take to the streets in 8 specially tuned street machines or 2 exclusive Black Edition rides
Which platforms had Black Edition?
The FAQ identifies Black Edition versions for PC, PlayStation 2, and Xbox. A Polish release notice dated November 25, 2005 specifically confirms a PlayStation 2 Black Edition release in Poland. That regional notice is not a complete worldwide platform catalog, and availability could vary by territory.
What about the physical edition?
Black Edition is relevant to collectors looking for the 2005 release, but the cited sources do not establish a complete list of package contents or current used-copy availability and prices. When checking a physical copy, verify its platform and region, condition, and whether any bonus disc or manual included with the particular release is present.

Don’t confuse it with the 2012 game
The 2005 Black Edition is separate from the 2012 Need for Speed: Most Wanted. EA’s 2012 announcement calls its preorder product the “Need for Speed Most Wanted Limited Edition” and describes different multiplayer bonuses. That Limited Edition is not the Black Edition discussed here.
