Civilization VI Platinum Edition is the base game plus six civilization and scenario packs and the two major expansions, Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm. Anthology contains that same core collection and adds later content, most notably the New Frontier Pass and the Leader Pass, along with other leader and scenario DLC. If you already own the base game, 2K also sells an Anthology Upgrade.
What each edition contains
Civilization VI Platinum Edition
Platinum is the older complete bundle. According to the official 2K Store listing, it includes:
- The base game, Sid Meier’s Civilization VI
- The Vikings Scenario Pack
- The Poland, Australia, Persia and Macedon, Nubia, and Khmer and Indonesia Civilization & Scenario Packs
- The Rise and Fall expansion
- The Gathering Storm expansion
Nintendo’s US listing for Platinum describes the same base game, six add-on packs and two expansions, and states that the New Frontier Pass is not included. The Xbox listing for the Windows PC version names the same six packs and two expansions. Because store pages are maintained separately for each platform, check the listing you are buying from rather than assuming every version has identical contents.
Civilization VI Anthology
Anthology is the full collection. The official Civilization site describes it as the base game, Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm, the six New Frontier Pass DLC packs, the six Leader Pass DLC packs, and additional leader and scenario DLC. The 2K Store listing describes the complete New Frontier Pass content pack as part of Anthology, and quotes its product statement as including “all of the Civilization VI content released,” with six DLC packs marked by an asterisk in that listing.

The practical difference is therefore the later content. Platinum stops at the two expansions and the six earlier packs. Anthology adds the New Frontier Pass, the Leader Pass and the remaining leader and scenario DLC.
Upgrading from the base game or from Platinum
The Anthology Upgrade
2K sells a Civilization VI Anthology Upgrade, which it describes as upgrading the base game to Anthology and providing the complete collection of released Civ VI content. 2K presents it as a way to save compared with buying the DLC and expansions separately, but that is a general claim, not a price quote. If you already own some DLC, compare the upgrade listing with the content your platform account already shows as owned before buying, since the upgrade is meant to cover the full collection rather than only the missing parts.

Leader Pass eligibility
According to 2K support, the Leader Pass is included for owners of Anthology and for anyone who has bought all of the content included in Anthology separately. Some Leader Pass content requires DLC you must already own. The 2K console announcement says that owners of Anthology, owners of the Anthology Upgrade, and players who separately own all included content are eligible for the Leader Pass at no additional charge. That console language also refers to a linked platform account requirement, so read the wording for your own console before assuming the pass will appear automatically.
Which edition fits your situation
- You want only the base game, both expansions and the six earlier packs: Platinum covers that set. Anthology is unnecessary unless you want the later content.
- You want New Frontier Pass or Leader Pass content: Anthology is the edition that includes it, or you can buy the Anthology Upgrade if you already own the base game.
- You already own Platinum and want the later content: Compare the Anthology Upgrade listing with the content still missing from your account. Confirm that the upgrade is offered for your platform before paying.
- You already own most of the DLC separately: Check which packs your account lists as owned. The Leader Pass is available without extra charge if you hold all Anthology content through separate purchases.

- Open the Platinum and Anthology listings in the store you intend to use and read the included-content list on that page.
- For an existing owner, compare the Anthology Upgrade price with the cost of the content you are missing.
- On consoles, confirm the platform account requirements for the Leader Pass.
- Recheck the listing on the day you buy, because edition contents and prices change.
The official listings support the content differences and upgrade route described above. They do not establish identical contents across every platform or region, so the store page for your version remains the final reference.
