There is no single fastest gathering tool in Guild Wars 2. The answer depends on what you are gathering. In a July 2025 discussion on the official Guild Wars 2 forum, players named the Consortium Harvesting Sickle or Fused Molten Sickle as the fastest option for harvesting plants, the Unbound Magic Beam mining tool as the fastest for ore, and the Unbound Magic Logging Tool as the fastest for wood. Those rankings are player reports, not ArenaNet benchmarks, and they date from mid-2025, so check them against the current game before relying on them.
What “tool” means in Guild Wars 2
The game has three gathering tool types, each matched to one resource category:
- Harvesting sickles gather plants.
- Logging axes gather wood.
- Mining picks gather ore.
Each type is equipped in its own gathering slot, so a sickle does not help with mining and an axe does not help with harvesting. Tool tier also matters: you need an appropriate tier to gather higher-tier nodes. According to the Guild Wars 2 Wiki, a tool’s skin can change gathering speed through its animation, which is why two tools of the same tier can feel quite different in play.
The fastest reported option for each task
Compare tools only within the task you actually do. The table below lists what the July 2025 forum discussion reported.

Why the forum ranking is not a benchmark
The thread is a useful guide to what experienced players prefer, but it is not a complete comparison. Speed claims can blur several variables:
- The skin’s animation length, which the thread notes is not fully documented for newer tools. A community animation spreadsheet was reported to be missing newer tools.
- The glyph fitted to the tool.
- Whether the player cancels the animation after the item is awarded.
- Changes to when gathering strikes register, which players in the thread reported observing.
Because these variables interact, a tool that feels faster on one node type may not win on another. If you want a personal answer, keep the node type, tier, glyph, and skin constant and time several runs of each candidate tool yourself.

Glyphs and gathering speed
Glyphs are upgrade components that can be applied to tools. ArenaNet’s official article on the glyph system, “The Gathering Storm,” states that the Glyph of Industry makes gathering complete 50% faster. According to ArenaNet, most tools have an upgrade slot and glyphs can generally be swapped, though some limited-use tools with built-in effects are exceptions. The article as retrieved did not show a publication date, so treat the 50% figure as ArenaNet’s stated effect rather than a measurement taken under specific test conditions.
Because the Glyph of Industry is a separate effect, a fast skin with an Industry glyph will generally outpace the same skin without one. Check the glyph slot on any tool you consider.

Other tool effects that change how gathering feels
The Guild Wars 2 Wiki separates material tools, which grant additional resources, from enhanced tools, which add utility effects. Its glyph descriptions include:
- Bountiful: a 33% chance of an extra strike.
- Flying: a movement-speed increase after gathering.
- Industrious: 50% faster gathering.
- Reapers: gathering of similar nodes within a radius.
- Timekeeper: a 33% chance to complete gathering instantly.
These are different kinds of benefit. An extra strike or a movement bonus can make a session more productive without making any single strike faster, and the Timekeeper’s instant completion is a chance-based proc rather than a fixed speed. Judge a tool by which effect you need most.

Unlimited gathering tools
According to the Wiki, unlimited gathering tools do not run out of charges and can gather all node tiers. They are sold through the Gem Store when available, and some include glyphs or glyph selection containers. Store stock and prices change, and the sources reviewed here did not confirm current availability for any named item, so check the in-game Gem Store directly before buying.
What is established and what is not
Three points are solid: the three gathering tool types are separate, speed-related glyphs and effects exist, and the Glyph of Industry is ArenaNet’s stated 50% gathering-speed effect. The fastest-tool rankings are community-reported as of July 2025. No independent, controlled timing data for individual tool skins was found, so no precise speed advantage can be stated for any one tool. Game updates since mid-2025 may have changed animations, strike registration, or availability.
