The run ends when the T-Rex hits an obstacle, such as a cactus or pterodactyl. That is a game over—not the end of a story: Chrome’s dinosaur game is designed as an endless runner, with no conventional final scene.
How does the dinosaur game end?
During a run, the dinosaur keeps moving while you jump over obstacles or duck beneath them. A collision ends that run and brings up the game-over state, from which you can start again. It does not mean you have completed a narrative campaign or reached a final boss.
Can you beat the no-internet dinosaur game?
There is no ordinary finish line to reach. Google designer Sebastien Gabriel described the concept as an “endless runner” in the company’s 2018 interview about the Chrome dino. Its basic play is to run, jump, and duck; the game’s familiar end is a collision, not a victory scene.
How long does it take to beat the game?
Chrome UX engineer Edward Jung said in that 2018 interview that the game was built to max out after approximately 17 million years. He framed it humorously: “We built it to max out at approximately 17 million years, the same amount of time that the T-rex was alive on Earth… but we feel like your spacebar may not be the same afterwards.” This is a theoretical design limit, not a practical playtime estimate or a normal challenge players are expected to complete.

Can you play it while connected to the internet?
Google’s 2018 interview says players could open chrome://dino without disconnecting from the internet. That instruction reflects the access described at the time; availability can vary by browser, platform, or administrator settings, particularly on managed devices.
Why is there a dinosaur game in Chrome?
Google described it as an easter egg for Chrome’s offline page. The interview says the game first shipped in September 2014 and scaled to all platforms by December 2014; pterodactyls and night mode were later additions. Its spare premise fits its role: a quick endless runner rather than a game with a story to finish.
