The PC level cheat in Fallout: New Vegas is player.setlevel <number>. Replace <number> with the level you want—for example, player.setlevel 20—then press Enter in the in-game console. The documented console instructions are for PC; they do not establish a matching command-entry method on the original Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 releases.
How to use the level command on PC
- During gameplay, press the backquote key (
`) to open the console. On many US keyboards, this is the same key marked with a tilde (~); on other layouts, the key may be elsewhere, often near Escape or the number 1. - At the console prompt, type
player.setlevel 20, changing20to your target level. - Press Enter to submit the command. The game pauses and the HUD disappears while the console is open.
The command and its target-level argument are documented by the Fallout Wiki and PC Gamer.

How the level command differs from XP cheats
These commands have different purposes; use the one that matches what you want to change.
| Command | Effect |
|---|---|
player.setlevel <number> |
Sets the player’s level to the supplied value. |
player.advlevel |
Advances one level and grants level perks without adding XP. The Fallout Wiki says you must make up the level points from the command and the XP required for the next level before leveling again. |
player.rewardxp <amount> |
Adds XP; any levels earned from that XP are granted immediately, one after another. The Fallout Wiki gives player.rewardxp 15000 as an example. |
The command references do not explain every downstream perk, XP, or save-state consequence of setting an arbitrary level. Do not assume player.setlevel reproduces the full sequence of a normal level-up.

Steam achievement warning
The Fallout Wiki says console commands disable achievements in the Steam version while they are in use, and that achievements re-enable after you exit and relaunch the game. This warning is specifically scoped to Steam; the cited source does not establish the same behavior for every PC storefront or platform. See the Fallout Wiki console-command reference.

The Fallout Wiki’s level reference reports a cap of 30 in the base game and 50 with all four add-ons, each of which raises the cap by five. These figures come from a community-maintained reference and are not independently confirmed here against an official publisher source. See the Fallout Wiki level-up reference.
