There is no verifiable single easiest Grandmaster in Destiny 2 as of October 8, 2026. Bungie’s current Grandmaster activity is the Grandmaster Vanguard Alert, which rotates weekly. The official material available does not name which alert is live on this date or rank the alerts by difficulty. Any activity labeled “easiest” should be read as a dated player opinion, not a current verdict.
What Bungie calls it now
Bungie’s November 2025 description says Grandmaster Vanguard Alerts rotate weekly, take longer than usual Grandmaster difficulty elsewhere in the Portal, and offer greater rewards. Bungie says they should feel like the Grandmaster Nightfalls of old. Bungie’s current activity guide places Grandmaster Vanguard runs within the Fireteam Ops structure and describes adjustable activity difficulty, modifiers, and Vanguard Alert rewards that refresh weekly.

Older names still circulate. After Update 9.7.0, Bungie deprecated the legacy Vanguard Ops playlist and the Nightfall nodes, and moved Vanguard Ops activities into the Fireteam Ops hub. A “easiest GM Nightfall” list written before that change may name playlists, nodes, or activity versions that no longer exist in the same form.
Why no single answer holds today
A fixed ranking breaks down for three reasons.
- The rotation changes weekly. The most recent dated official weekly listing available shows Birthplace of the Vile as the Grandmaster Vanguard Alert through June 23, 2026. That is a past selection. It does not establish the lineup for October 2026.
- Modifiers and difficulty change the fight. The current activity can be customized with modifiers and adjustable difficulty, so the same map can play very differently from one week to the next.
- Your fireteam matters. Practical difficulty depends on your team’s experience and composition, not only on the activity itself.
Bungie’s support guide says planned live-service content updates ended with the June 9, 2026 release, while stability hotfixes may still be needed. The structure described above is the one to check, but individual details can still shift with a hotfix.

What past player picks tell you
Player recommendations are useful context, but they are not rankings. In a Bungie.net Forums thread dated January 28, 2024, a user asked which Grandmaster was easiest for someone who had never done one. One reply recommended Birthplace of the Vile for that season, another suggested Heist Moon Battleground, and a third said the former was long but a good choice at the time. A Bungie.net Forums thread dated February 4, 2021, titled “What’s the easiest GM nightfall?”, offered conflicting picks, including Lake of Shadows, Exodus Crash, Inverted Spire, and The Glassway.
These threads describe what individual players found manageable when they wrote them. They do not show what is easiest now, and they should not be read as consensus.

How to choose an easier run this week
- Confirm this week’s alert. Open the Fireteam Ops area in the Portal and check the Grandmaster Vanguard Alert currently listed. Do not rely on a guide written before the last rotation.
- Read the active modifiers. Check them before you launch. Modifiers change enemy pressure and the loadout you need.
- Start at the lower difficulty. If the activity offers adjustable difficulty, a first attempt at a lower setting gives your team more room to learn the encounter.
- Check loadout coverage. Make sure someone on the team can handle the modifiers and the boss phases, and that ammunition and damage types cover the enemies you expect.
- Compare the alert against the criteria below before committing a full fireteam.
Criteria for comparing an alert
These are practical comparison points, not an official ranking. Apply them to the activity listed for the current week:
- Boss-room exposure and mechanics
- Champion and enemy pressure
- Safe positioning and encounter pacing
- Modifiers and required loadout coverage
- Completion consistency for your fireteam
Legacy Nightfall: The Ordeal tiers
Bungie’s legacy help page on Nightfall: The Ordeal describes an older system, not today’s Grandmaster Vanguard Alerts. It lists five tiers: Adept, Hero, Legend, Master, and Grandmaster. Champions spawn from Hero and above. Its rules and interface may not match the current game, so use it only to understand older Nightfall discussions.
