The maximum weapon level in the main campaign of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is V5. Once you finish the game and enter Challenge Mode, the new Omega variants of weapons can be upgraded up to V10. The two numbers answer different questions, so the playthrough stage and the weapon type determine which one applies.

In the first campaign, V5 is the ceiling. PlayStation’s post-game editorial frames Level 5 as the starting point for the new Omega weapons rather than the end of progression, which is why V10 appears only in the Challenge Mode context.
How Challenge Mode changes weapon progression
Challenge Mode opens after you complete the story. According to PlayStation’s post-game editorial, it carries over your weapons, their upgrades, maximum health, and collectibles, and it introduces new maximum levels and new Omega weapons. Progress you made in the campaign is therefore not reset when you start Challenge Mode.
What Omega variants add
PlayStation says these variants hit harder and have more upgrade slots. In the quoted editorial, the wording is: “Level 5 was only the start; these new variants hit harder, have even more upgrade slots and might push themselves to the front of your weapon wheel.” The editorial is unsigned, so it should be treated as PlayStation’s own guidance rather than a named developer’s statement.

GameRevolution’s guide, written by Sam Sant and dated June 10, 2021, describes Omega weapon upgrades as running from V6 through V10. Standard weapons stop at V5 in the campaign, so an Omega version is the route to the higher numbers.

- Combat use raises the level. PlayStation’s blog says using weapons in combat levels them up, increasing their damage and unlocking more upgrade options at weapon vendors. The sentence is unattributed to any named person.
- Raritanium unlocks upgrades. PlayStation’s official product page says Raritanium is used to unlock weapon upgrades.
In practice, a weapon has to be used before the vendor offers its next upgrade options, and the currency unlocks those options. The sources reviewed do not give exact Raritanium costs per upgrade, so check the vendor screen in your own save for current figures.
What the sources do not establish
- Exact acquisition steps for Omega variants. The PlayStation pages reviewed do not give a shop, cost, or purchase sequence for each Omega weapon, and the GameRevolution guide does not supply one either.
- Currency to level weapons past V5 in Challenge Mode. The coverage reviewed does not state a separate requirement for V6 through V10 beyond the general leveling and Raritanium mechanics above.
- Changes since 2021. The GameRevolution guide is dated June 10, 2021. The PlayStation pages carry no update date in the material reviewed, so if a later patch changed weapon caps, your in-game weapon menu is the authoritative check.
For the PC version, PlayStation.Blog’s “what to expect” post, dated July 26, 2023, is the official reference for the leveling description above. It does not restate the V5 and V10 caps.
