That does not make either reaction the strongest in every team: the result depends on who applies each element, how reliably the team can trigger the reaction, and what you mean by “strongest.”
Which reaction has the highest single-hit potential?
Vaporize and Melt are the conventional answers when the goal is to amplify one attack. Secondary guides commonly describe Pyro-triggered Vaporize and Melt as dealing 2.0× damage. That figure is a familiar guide-level explanation, not a current official formula verified here; consult up-to-date game mechanics if you need an exact calculation.
A high multiplier alone does not guarantee the largest hit in practice. The attack must trigger the reaction in the intended order, and the team must be able to apply elements consistently. Character effects and other bonuses can also change the damage in a particular situation.
What does “strongest” mean for your team?
A reaction’s practical value is not a universal leaderboard. Compare options using the measure that matters for your play:

#1 Best Overall
- Peak damage: the largest amplified hit you can reliably set up.
- Repeatable damage: how often the team can trigger the reaction over an encounter.
- Coverage: whether damage reaches one target or several enemies.
- Reliability: whether your characters can maintain the necessary elemental application.
- Roster fit: how well the reaction works with your characters, investment, and playstyle.
Guides discussing reaction strength emphasize that team investment and playstyle affect the result. The available evidence does not establish one reaction as the best for every roster or enemy.
Why can the answer change by version?
HoYoverse’s Version 4.0 update notes describe a character effect that increases Vaporize reaction damage for a limited duration. The official Version Luna I notes also reference reaction variants and reaction-damage bonuses. These are examples of version- and character-specific context, not proof of a universal baseline ranking.
Rank #2
For those examples, see HoYoverse’s Version 4.0 Update Details and Version Luna I Update Details. A reaction comparison should therefore be read alongside the relevant character effects and current version, rather than treated as permanently settled.

- Set the goal. Decide whether you care about one large hit, sustained damage, area coverage, or ease of use.
- Check your team’s application. Identify which character applies the first element and which attack is intended to trigger the reaction.
- Test consistency. A theoretical high-damage setup is less useful if your team cannot reproduce its elemental order reliably.
- Account for effects and version. Include relevant character bonuses and reaction changes instead of assuming every team uses the same baseline.
