In Minecraft Java Edition, hold F3 and tap G to show chunk borders. Press the same combination again to hide them.
Show chunk borders in Java Edition
- While playing Minecraft Java Edition, hold F3.
- While holding F3, tap G.
- Look for the chunk-border overlay. The current Java language assets label the control “Show Chunk Boundaries” and display “Chunk borders: shown” when the overlay is enabled. Source: Minecraft Java language assets.
F3+G is a toggle, not a hold-to-view control. Press it again to turn the overlay off. The shortcut is documented for Java Edition; it should not be treated as a universal Minecraft command. Minecraft Feedback material also distinguishes Bedrock controls, but does not establish a definitive current Bedrock shortcut.
If F3+G does not work
Check the keyboard’s function-key layer
On some laptops and compact keyboards, F3 is accessed through an Fn layer. Try holding Fn as well as F3 while tapping G; the exact combination depends on the keyboard’s configuration. Minecraft Java Edition 26.1 language assets identify the in-game control, while keyboard behavior varies by device.
Confirm your edition
The shortcut covered here is for Java Edition. Bedrock Edition uses different controls, and community requests for Java shortcut parity are not an authoritative Bedrock controls guide. Check the controls and settings available in your Bedrock version rather than assuming F3+G will work there. Minecraft Feedback
