Each Roblox account can have up to 1,000 friends. Roblox raised the limit from 200 to 1,000 on January 14, 2025, and said the change was already live when it was announced. Roblox Support still describes 1,000 as the maximum, so the older figure of 200 is out of date for account friend lists.
Why the old number of 200 still appears
Many guides, forum posts and developer pages still mention 200. Those references come from two different places. Before January 2025, 200 was the account friend cap. Separately, Roblox Creator Hub documents a default of 200 for the maxFriends parameter of Player:GetFriendsOnlineAsync(maxFriends). That parameter controls how many online friends a script receives back from the function. It has nothing to do with how many friends a player can hold.
What the limit counts
The limit applies per account. Your friends list can hold up to 1,000 accounts, and the cap is the same whether you are a new player or a long-time user. Roblox has not, in the sources reviewed for this article, described a separate higher limit for premium or verified accounts, so do not assume one exists.
Why a friend request may fail
A request can fail even when you have room in your own list. Roblox Support lists several possible causes:

- Either account is full. The limit applies to both people. If the recipient already has 1,000 friends, the request cannot go through, even if you have space.
- A request limit has been reached. Roblox’s help page refers to a request limit for either person as a possible blocker. The page does not give a specific number for this limit.
- Bot-activity detection. Roblox may block requests from accounts its systems flag as automated.
- Australia-specific age-check restrictions. For users in Australia, certain age checks and age-related restrictions can prevent a request from being delivered.
What to do if the request does not arrive
- Check your own friends list. Open your profile, select Friends, and confirm that you have fewer than 1,000 entries.
- Ask the other person to check theirs. Roblox recommends that both accounts stay below the maximum.
- Ask the other person to send a request to you instead, which can sometimes clear a stuck attempt.
- Wait and try again later. Roblox’s support guidance suggests this when no obvious cause applies.
If none of these steps work and you are in Australia, the age-check restriction is the most likely explanation to review in your account settings.
How long a pending request lasts
Roblox Support says a friend request expires after two years if it is never accepted. An expired request does not count against either list, so you can send a new one at any time afterward, subject to the same limits.
