In it, Hypno coaxes children away with promises of safety and play, then reveals that it has deceived them and intends to keep them. It is Pokémon fan fiction, not an official story. The earliest dated appearance the sources establish is a PokéCommunity thread started on August 10, 2010, which reproduces the poem under the title “Hypno’s Lullaby.” That post shows the poem was circulating publicly by then. It does not identify who wrote the poem or when it was first written.
What the poem says
The 2010 forum post presents a rhyming, first-person poem with a simple three-part shape:
- The lure: Hypno speaks as a gentle presence and promises children safety and play.
- The reveal: The poem turns, and Hypno admits the promises were a deception.
- The threat: Hypno states that it intends to keep the children.
The thread frames the piece as a Pokémon creepypasta, a genre of short horror stories built around existing game creatures. That framing matters for reading the poem: it draws on Hypno’s established traits (its sleep and hypnosis themes) to make an ordinary-seeming lullaby feel predatory.
Where it first appears
The earliest located record is a PokéCommunity Forums thread titled “Creepypasta,” started on August 10, 2010. The thread starter posted the poem there. The same thread indicates that Pokémon creepypastas had been circulating for months before that date, so the August 2010 post should be read as a documented appearance, not the poem’s birth date or confirmed first publication.

- Whether it was first posted elsewhere, earlier, on a different forum or image board.
- When the first song recording or adaptation was made. The sources do not date one.
The Hypno and FireRed connection
Fans connect the poem to Hypno’s Pokédex lore. In the same 2010 thread, one participant says the poem “kinda links to his Firered entry,” referring to Hypno’s entry in Pokémon FireRed. That is the only documented link between the poem and a specific game entry, and it is a fan’s observation. It is plausible inspiration, but it is not verified creator testimony, and the author’s intent is unconfirmed.
The official Pokédex identifies Hypno as the “Hypnosis Pokémon.” That name supports the broad thematic link between a sleep-inducing creature and a song meant to lull, but it says nothing about who wrote the poem or whether it was meant to be read as horror.

Is Hypno’s Lullaby canon?
No. Pokémon Support’s article on the origins, legends, and histories of Pokémon characters, published January 30, 2026, states the creators’ position on open questions:
“It is the intent of the Pokémon creators that questions that have not already been answered within the video games, animated movies, or TV shows, be left to the imaginations and interpretations of Pokémon fans.”

- Redesigned tonearm base and headshell for improved tracking and reduced resonance

The article attributes this guidance to the Pokémon creators as a group and names no individual. Because the poem is not part of the games, animated movies, or TV shows, it is not an official part of Hypno’s story. The most accurate description is that it is fan fiction that uses official characters and an open-ended lore space.
Lavender Town and the ghost-story setting
Official material does supply a spooky backdrop that fans draw on. The Pokémon Company’s Kanto 25th-anniversary feature, “Celebrate 25 Years of Pokémon with Memorable Moments from the Kanto Region,” describes Lavender Town as known for ghostly sightings. It highlights Pokémon Tower, which holds the graves of deceased Pokémon, and it recalls the Marowak that died protecting Cubone.

That setting explains why a horror reading of a Pokémon poem feels at home in Kanto. It does not establish that Lavender Town’s music inspired Hypno’s Lullaby, and it does not connect the poem to any official event.

Is the poem in Pokémon FireRed?
The poem is not part of Pokémon FireRed or any other game. The link is that the fan thread refers to Hypno’s FireRed Pokédex entry. Readers looking for the poem or song should expect to find it in fan communities and forum archives, not in the game’s text or events.
