Jackbox games run on a compatible host device—such as a computer, console, Apple TV, certain Fire TV or Android TV devices, or through Netflix—and most players join from a phone, tablet, or computer browser at jackbox.tv. The exact game and device matter: check the game’s listing in the store you plan to use before buying.
Platforms that can run Jackbox games
Jackbox’s platform guide identifies the following host options. Availability can vary by game, device model, and storefront, so a platform being supported in general does not guarantee that every title is available on it.

|---|---|
| Windows, Mac, and Linux computers | Jackbox identifies computer storefronts including Steam and the Epic Games Store. Codes bought through Jackbox’s website can be redeemed through Steam on PC, Mac, and Linux, according to its platform support guide. A purchase on one storefront should not be assumed to cover another. |
| Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation | Jackbox lists all three console families. Individual games and console generations may differ; check the exact title in the console’s store. The guide describes Switch as a portable option, while Xbox and PlayStation are more suited to a fixed living-room setup. |
| Apple TV | Jackbox identifies Apple TV as an option. Apple purchase-sharing rules depend on the title and storefront; see the purchase section below. |
| Amazon Fire TV and certain Android TVs | Some Fire TVs, Fire TV Sticks, Fire TV Cubes, and Android smart TVs are supported. Compatibility is model-dependent. Search the TV device’s own app store for the exact Jackbox game before purchasing; some smart TVs cannot access it through Google Play. |
| Netflix | Jackbox’s current guide says subscribers can access Jackbox games through Netflix. Because service catalogs and requirements can change, check Netflix for current availability and eligibility. |
Jackbox lists Roku and Chromebook/ChromeOS as unsupported. A laptop connected to a TV by HDMI can still work: the computer runs the game, and the TV serves as its display. The computer needs a compatible video output and the TV a matching input.
Phones and tablets are usually controllers, not the host
Jackbox describes its games as not being mobile apps and says it does not offer or require a mobile app to play. Usually, one person launches the game on a compatible host device, and other players use a browser on a phone, tablet, or other web-enabled device. They go to jackbox.tv, enter the room code shown by the host, and submit answers or draw on their own screens. The players generally do not need to buy a separate copy.
#1 Best Overall
- For 1-8 players, plus a participating Audience of up to 10,000!
- Your phones or tablets are your controllers!
- 5 fun party games included:
- Quiplash 2 (3-8 players)
- Trivia Murder Party (1-8 players)
This distinction matters when choosing a device: being able to open a browser at jackbox.tv lets someone join a game, but does not necessarily mean that device can run and display the game for the group.
How to choose a platform
- Check the exact game first. Search the intended storefront for the specific pack or title; platform availability is not uniform across every game.
- Decide where the host screen will be. The host device must run the game and show its main screen to the group. A computer can connect to a TV with HDMI; a console or supported TV device can provide a living-room setup.
- Consider portability. A computer is flexible, Switch and set-top devices can be moved more easily, and Xbox or PlayStation are generally better suited to staying in one place.
- For a smart TV, verify the model and store. Look in the TV’s native app store for Jackbox before buying. A generic claim that a TV runs Android or Fire TV does not establish that a specific model supports the game.
- Choose the storefront you intend to keep using. Jackbox purchases generally do not transfer between platforms, so a game bought for one platform may need to be bought again for another.
Buying across platforms: the Apple exception
Jackbox says purchases generally cannot be transferred between platforms. Its support article describes a limited Apple exception: specified packs and bundles from Party Pack 7 onward have universal purchase across macOS, iPad, and Apple TV through the Mac App Store. For Party Packs 1–6, macOS requires a separate Mac App Store purchase; the article also details version-sharing rules for older Apple TV and iPad editions. Check the individual listing and Jackbox’s platform and purchase guidance rather than assuming a purchase is shared.

For an in-person session, one player launches the game and makes the host screen visible to the group. Everyone else joins through a browser using the room code. For remote play, Jackbox describes sharing the host’s screen through a video-call or streaming app. If the host is running the game on a laptop, Jackbox recommends using a second device as the controller.
