There is no confirmed date for Grand Theft Auto V to return as a free game. The only documented free claim was a one-week Epic Games Store offer of Grand Theft Auto V: Premium Edition in May 2020, which ended May 21, 2020 at 11 a.m. ET. The official notices and Epic support pages that cover this topic do not announce another GTA V giveaway, and Epic says it has no advance information about upcoming free games. Any predicted return week is guesswork, so the practical approach is to check Epic’s free-games page when an offer is live.
What the May 2020 offer was
- Announced: Epic Games Store announced the offer on May 15, 2020. It was the opening week of a four-week Mega Sale, and Epic said each week would reveal a new free game.
- Edition: Rockstar Games’ May 14, 2020 notice named Grand Theft Auto V: Premium Edition, free on Epic through May 21 at 11 a.m. ET.
- Keeping the game: Rockstar’s notice said a claimed copy could be kept after the offer ended.
- Included content: Full Story Mode, access to GTA Online and its listed updates, and the Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack. These terms belong to the 2020 offer only and do not describe any later promotion.
Because these records are from 2020, treat them as history. They establish what Epic and Rockstar offered then, not a schedule for what comes next.

How Epic’s free games work now
Epic’s current support page describes a weekly giveaway with these rules:
- A new game becomes available each Thursday at 8 a.m. Pacific time.
- Each game can be claimed for seven days.
- A claimed game stays in your library.
- Claiming requires an Epic account with two-factor authentication enabled.
The weekly rhythm tells you when offers rotate, not which title comes next. Epic Games Player Support states: “Player Support doesn’t have advance information about upcoming free games.” For players who missed an offer, Epic’s advice is to watch future free promotions and special offers.

How to check for a new GTA V offer
- Open the Free Games page on the Epic Games Store website, or the Free Games section of the Epic Games Store client.
- Find the current week’s title, which changes on Thursdays at 8 a.m. Pacific time.
- Confirm the exact edition before claiming. A future GTA V giveaway may not be the same edition as the 2020 Premium Edition.
- Read the end time on the offer page. The 2020 offer closed at 11 a.m. ET on its final day, and a future offer will state its own cutoff.
If you want to buy the game instead
Epic’s product page currently lists Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced for PC, and says the purchase includes Grand Theft Auto V Legacy. This is a paid listing, not a giveaway. Editions and prices change, so check the live product page for the current price, the edition contents, and availability on your platform before buying.
