There is no button labeled “Select” on an Xbox One controller. With the Xbox logo facing you, the small button to its left is View; the small button to its right is Menu.
Which Xbox One button does “Select” mean?
Check the game’s control screen or on-screen instructions to see what action its “Select” prompt refers to. The controller’s printed labels are View and Menu, and individual games may use their own action names.

Why do some guides say Back, Start, or Select?
Older Xbox controller documentation labels the two center controls “BACK” and “START.” On Xbox One, Microsoft calls them View and Menu. A 2013 Xbox Wire article describes the placement change: “The size and placement of the Xbox button has also changed so the view and menu buttons are more accessible.” Read Microsoft’s Xbox One controller design article and see the older Xbox controller guide.
So “Select” may be loose or game-specific wording, rather than the name printed on an Xbox One controller button.

What if the button is missing or damaged?
If a center button is physically broken, Microsoft lists its Xbox Wireless Controller as compatible with Xbox One. Replacing a controller is not necessary just because you cannot find a button labeled Select.
