For repeatable late-game XP in Borderlands, head to the Eridian Promontory and clear the Guardians. If you own The Secret Armory of General Knoxx and are ready for a tougher endgame challenge, Crawmerax and his minions are another option. Neither route has a verified XP-per-hour rate, so choose based on access, survivability, and how comfortably you can repeat the fights.
Farm Guardians in the Eridian Promontory
The Eridian Promontory is the practical starting point for a repeatable late-game farm. Work through the area, killing Guardians along the route, then repeat it using the save and reload routine that fits your playthrough. Community recommendations often suggest bringing a shock weapon; treat that as player advice, not a requirement.

This is a late-game route, not a shortcut for a low-level character. If the Guardians take too long to defeat or you struggle to survive, a more manageable area may earn you progress more comfortably, even if its relative speed has not been established.
Try Crawmerax if you have the DLC and can handle the fight
Crawmerax the Invincible is associated with The Secret Armory of General Knoxx. At high level, players also recommend farming the boss’s minions for XP. This is a more demanding alternative to clearing ordinary enemies in the Promontory, so it makes sense only if the content is available to you and the encounter is manageable for your character.
#1 Best Overall
- Bazillions of guns: rocket-launching shotguns, enemy-torching revolvers, smgs that Fire Lightning rounds, and tons more.
- Radical art style: traditional rendering combined with hand-drawn textures give Borderlands its iconic style.
- Intense vehicular combat: behind the wheel, engage in frenetic vehicle-to-vehicle combat.
- Co-op frenzy: online or together on the couch, tear through enemies as a Crew of up to 4.
- With improved character models, weapons, textures, and more, Borderlands shines on a 4K display.
Edition names alone do not establish which purchase includes this DLC. Check the current store listing for the specific game edition before buying on the assumption that it contains The Secret Armory of General Knoxx.
Other community-suggested areas
Rakk Hive, Old Haven, The Descent, and Jakobs Cove also appear in community recommendations. They are possible routes to try, but the available comparisons do not establish that any of them is faster than the Promontory.

To decide whether one works better for you, compare practical factors: how quickly you can reach enemies, how long a clear takes, whether you survive consistently, and whether you prefer regular enemy groups or a boss encounter. No controlled comparison or reproducible XP-per-hour figure is available for these routes.

Ordinary kills in Mad Moxxi’s Underdome are not described as directly awarding XP. Completing arena challenges can award XP, but repeated enemy kills there should not be treated as a standard XP-farming loop.
