In Skyward Sword, treasures are sold to Rupin at his home in Skyloft, and bugs are sold to Strich in the Knight Academy. Both buyers only take offers at night. Rupin and Strich each choose a limited selection, so an item you carry may not be on the list on a given night. Certain shields and inventory capacity upgrades are sold through the Bazaar Item Check instead.
Where each item category sells
| Buyer | Sells to the buyer | Location | When | Selection |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rupin | Treasures | His home in Skyloft | Night only | Four treasure types per night |
| Strich | Insects (bugs) | Knight Academy, reached through the second-floor door to his room | Night only | Three insect types per night |
| Bazaar Item Check | Certain shields, seed satchels, bomb bags and quivers | The character who stores Link’s items | Not stated in the source | Fixed list; buyback prices vary by item |
| Moonlight Merchant | Nothing; he sells selected rare treasures to Link | Waterfall cave in Skyloft | Not stated in the source | Not applicable for selling |
The schedules, item groups and prices above come from a specialist shop guide last updated April 14, 2023. They describe the game as the guide documents it and are not based on separate testing.

Selling treasures to Rupin
Go to Rupin’s home in Skyloft at night. He offers to buy four treasure types on that night. If the treasure you want to sell is not on the list, decline the offer and sleep until the next night. The offered group changes, so you can ask again then.
The guide lists these treasures among those Rupin has offered: Hornet Larvae, Eldin Ore, Jelly Blob, Evil Crystal, Bird Feather, Ancient Flower, Monster Claw, Blue Bird Feather, Tumbleweed, Amber Relic, Monster Horn, Golden Skull, Lizard Tail, Dusk Relic, Ornamental Skull and Goddess Plume. Because each night offers only four, any single item may take several nights to appear.

Selling bugs to Strich
Strich buys insects at the Knight Academy at night. Use the second-floor door to reach his room. He offers to buy three insect types per night. As with Rupin, decline and sleep until the following night to see a different selection.
Insects the guide lists for him include Deku Hornet, Sand Cicada, Eldin Roller, Blessed Butterfly, Gerudo Dragonfly, Starry Firefly, Skyloft Mantis, Lanayru Ant, Faron Grasshopper, Woodland Rhino Beetle, Volcanic Ladybug and Sky Stag Beetle.

Selling shields and upgrade items at the Bazaar Item Check
If you want to sell equipment rather than treasures or bugs, the Bazaar Item Check is the place to look. The guide says the character who stores Link’s items can also buy certain shields, seed satchels, bomb bags and quivers. Buyback prices are set per item. Unlike Rupin and Strich, this buyer is not described as operating on a rotating nightly selection.
The Moonlight Merchant buys nothing from you
The Moonlight Merchant in Skyloft’s waterfall cave is often mistaken for a selling point. He sells selected rare treasures to Link at high prices, so he is a place to spend rupees, not to dispose of inventory.

Keep treasures that you may need for upgrades
Selling is not always the best use of a treasure. Nintendo’s official gameplay page describes bugs, ore and monster parts as materials collected to improve gear at the Scrap Shop. A Nintendo Life guide to the HD edition, published in 2021, frames treasures as having both a sale value and an upgrade use. Before selling a treasure, check whether it is needed for an upgrade you plan to buy, since selling every spare item can slow your progress through the upgrade path.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to read the prices
- All prices are in-game rupees, not real-world currency.
- Rupin’s treasure buy prices vary by item and include 20, 30 and 100 rupees in the guide’s listing.
- Strich’s insect prices also differ by type.
- Bazaar Item Check resale values are listed per item in the same guide.
Treat these values as the guide’s reported figures for the game version it covers. Check the numbers in your own game before planning a large purchase around them.
