Pike in Old School RuneScape are caught by lure and bait fishing in the River Lum, with the Lumbridge stretch of river the most direct option for most players. You need at least 25 Fishing, a fishing rod, and bait.
What you need before you go
- Fishing level 25 or higher. The in-game Fishing tutor states that pike require at least level 25 Fishing before they can be caught from the Lumbridge river.
- A fishing rod. The tutor’s instruction uses rod-and-bait fishing, which is the method for pike.
- Bait. Pike are taken with bait rather than with a plain net or harpoon-style gear. Carry enough to fish continuously, since bait is consumed as you catch.
Where to fish for pike
Two river locations on the River Lum are the ones identified for lure and bait fishing:
| Location | Why it is listed for pike | Banking |
|---|---|---|
| Lumbridge river | The Fishing tutor names the Lumbridge river specifically as a place to catch pike. | Lumbridge Castle has a bank, per the OSRS Wiki fishing location reference. |
| Barbarian Village river | The OSRS Wiki fishing reference lists Barbarian Village among the lure and bait spots on the River Lum. | A free-to-play guide notes Edgeville bank as an option. |
Lumbridge
Lumbridge is the simplest choice for a first pike trip. The in-game tutor names it directly, and the castle bank is close enough to the river to restock bait and empty your inventory without a long walk. This is the location to start with if you are unsure which spot to use.
Barbarian Village
Barbarian Village is also a valid pike spot on the same river. It makes sense if you are already travelling through that area or want to combine the trip with other tasks. Banking there means the Edgeville option noted in the free-to-play guide, so plan your bait supply before you leave the river.

How the choice affects your session
Neither source compares catch rates or travel times between the two spots, so there is no established basis for calling one faster or more efficient. The practical difference is convenience: Lumbridge is the default recommendation because the tutor names it and the bank is nearby, while Barbarian Village suits players already in that part of the map.
Free-to-play and membership notes
The tutor’s pike instruction appears in its non-members-world guidance, and the free-to-play guide includes rod-and-bait fishing. That means a free-to-play account can follow the same basic route. Confirm the world you are on and check the game’s current fishing guidance if you are playing on a members-only world, since location details can change between game updates.

Checking the spot before you fish
- Walk to the River Lum at Lumbridge or Barbarian Village.
- Open your Fishing skill and confirm you are at level 25 or higher.
- Equip or carry your fishing rod and bait.
- Use the fishing option on the river water and check the action text. A pike spot uses the bait method, not a net or cage.
- If the option does not appear, you are probably on the wrong part of the river, or your level or equipment does not meet the requirement.
Location guidance in this article comes from the in-game Fishing tutor and OSRS Wiki reference pages in an older snapshot. Verify the spot against the current game before a long session, especially after major updates.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. The Bottom Line
For most players, fish pike from the Lumbridge stretch of the River Lum at Fishing level 25 or higher, using a fishing rod and bait. Barbarian Village is a valid alternative when it fits your route.
