The Zelda Wiki’s Voltfin Trout entry lists freshwater lakes in Hyrule Ridge and the Tabantha Frontier as its habitats, so search those regions’ lakes and use the in-game name when you look it up in guides.
Where to find Voltfin Trout
The Zelda Wiki’s Voltfin Trout entry places the fish in freshwater lakes in two regions:
- Hyrule Ridge
- Tabantha Frontier
The entry does not give exact pond locations, coordinates, or spawn rates, so you will need to check the lakes in those regions yourself. Because the source is a community-maintained wiki and not an official Nintendo map or guide, treat its habitat list as a starting point rather than a guaranteed route.
An alternate drop source
The same entry reports that Forest Octoroks near Thundra Plateau can drop Voltfin Trout. This is a reported drop, not an established farming method. No drop rate is stated, so expect it to be occasional rather than dependable.

What Voltfin Trout is used for
The in-game Hyrule Compendium describes the fish as having scales with an insulating compound. When the trout is cooked into a dish, the Compendium says, it gives resistance to electricity. The Zelda Wiki also notes that one fish restores one heart when eaten raw, but cooking it for electricity resistance is the use the Compendium describes.
Don’t confuse it with Electric Darner
Electric Darner is an insect, not a fish. Players who search for an “electric fish” sometimes land on it by mistake, so compare the two before you go looking.
