You can get a free phial of Fantasia in Final Fantasy XIV by completing the side quest Bottled Fantasy, which is handed out by the Medicine Merchant in Ul’dah – Steps of Thal. Square Enix’s Patch 7.0 notes list the main-scenario quest The Scions of the Seventh Dawn as the prerequisite and state that the quest awards one phial of Fantasia.
How to get the free phial
The route is short, but it depends on one prerequisite, so check it before you travel to the quest giver.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Quest name | Bottled Fantasy |
| Quest giver | Medicine Merchant |
| Location | Ul’dah – Steps of Thal, at X:13.4, Y:9.2 |
| Class or job requirement | Any class or job, level 1 (as listed in the Patch 7.0 notes) |
| Prerequisite | Complete the main-scenario quest “The Scions of the Seventh Dawn” |
| Reward | One phial of Fantasia |
Steps
- Confirm that “The Scions of the Seventh Dawn” is complete on your character. If it is not, finish the main scenario to that point first.
- Travel to Ul’dah – Steps of Thal and move to X:13.4, Y:9.2, where the Medicine Merchant stands.
- Talk to the Medicine Merchant and accept Bottled Fantasy.
- Complete the quest. The phial is awarded on completion.
Patch 7.0 says players “will receive a phial of Fantasia upon completing this quest.” That official sentence is the clearest confirmation that the phial is a quest reward and not a purchase or a limited code.
Things that are easy to confuse
- Free-login or time-code campaigns are different. Those promotions have given out game time, not a Fantasia phial, so they do not solve this question.
- Physical products cannot award the phial. A guide, accessory, or game-time code bought in the real world does not grant an in-game item.
What a phial of Fantasia does
Using a phial lets you change your character’s appearance details again and again within a set window, rather than only once. Square Enix’s Patch 7.0 Fantasia notice describes the rule this way: from Patch 7.0 onward, using a phial to edit character details allows you to re-edit as many times as you like for 60 minutes (Earth time) of in-game playtime, starting after you log in following the initial edit.

- Skeleteen Alchemist Liquid Holder Prop is the ideal costume accessory for a Halloween costume.
- The Bottles are 5" tall and 3.5" wide, with a 3" loop, perfect for hanging from a necklace or belt.
- These poison flasks are ideal medicine accessories for a warlock Plague Doctor dress up costume.
- To complete the magical Voodoo costume you would need a black jacket, skull necklaces, and a staff.
- Skeleteen items are made of tested materials that are non-toxic and safe.
Two practical points follow from that wording:
- The 60 minutes is in-game playtime, not wall-clock time after the edit. The counter does not run while you are logged out or while the client is closed, so you can leave and return without losing the window.
- The window begins after you log in following the initial edit. Plan a session of edits in one sitting rather than making one change and returning days later.
Past promotions: historical context only
Square Enix also offered a phial with the purchase of a 60-day game time code during a limited campaign running August 1–31, 2019. That campaign has ended, so it is not a current way to obtain Fantasia. Treat it as background on how the item has been distributed, not as a method you can use now.
Checking whether the route still applies
The Bottled Fantasy details above come from the Patch 7.0 notes, the most recent official source that describes this quest and reward in the detail needed here. Quest and item behavior can change in later patches, and I could not confirm the quest’s status against a newer official notice. Before you travel, check the current Lodestone patch notes and news for any change to the quest, its prerequisite, or the phial reward. Check current official Lodestone announcements for any promotion before describing one as active, because this guide does not establish that any limited-time offer is running now.
