The game never calls its city Miami, though. Its fictional setting is named Vice City, and Rockstar Games describes it as a sprawling city of beaches, swamps, glitz and ghetto. If you are asking about the newest entry in the series, Grand Theft Auto VI also returns to Vice City, but it has not come out yet.
The classic game: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is the released Rockstar Games title that most players mean when they ask which GTA game is set in Miami. Rockstar’s official game page lists an October 27, 2002 release date and identifies the game’s setting as Vice City. The page lists PS4, PC, Mac, iOS, PS2, Android, Xbox and Kindle among its platforms. Storefront availability can vary by edition, region and date, so check the listing for the version you want before buying.

Why the city is called Vice City, not Miami
Rockstar’s own description frames Vice City as a fictional place: “a huge urban sprawl ranging from the beach to the swamps and the glitz to the ghetto.” That description does not name Miami, and it does not map the city onto any real neighborhoods or boundaries. Calling Vice City “Miami-inspired” is a fair shorthand for readers, but it should be read as a general resemblance rather than a street-by-street copy of the real city.
The newer entry: Grand Theft Auto VI
Grand Theft Auto VI returns to Vice City, but it is set in a wider region. Rockstar says the game heads to Leonida, a fictional state that is home to Vice City and beyond, and its current game page lists the location as “Vice City, USA.” Rockstar’s most recent release-date announcement, published November 7, 2025, lists November 19, 2026 as the launch date and describes the game as a return to modern-day Vice City. As of October 8, 2026, the game has not been released.

What is and is not established about the Miami connection
Rockstar’s official pages confirm that Vice City is a fictional game setting and that Grand Theft Auto VI places it inside Leonida. They do not confirm a neighborhood-by-neighborhood correspondence with Miami, a map overlay, or a precise real-world geography for the inspiration. If you need to cite a specific Miami location behind a particular place in the game, look for a separate, dedicated source for that claim.

- If someone asks which released GTA game is set in Miami, the answer is Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, with the note that its city is called Vice City.
