In each case a second player joins on the same console and display, and the screen divides between two characters. Capcom’s published material does not establish split-screen for the original Resident Evil: Revelations, and the manuals do not prove identical behaviour on every port or edition.

Resident Evil 5
The Xbox 360 manual describes two players taking the roles of Chris and Sheva. During offline play, a second player can join at any time by connecting another controller and pressing Start; when play resumes, the game “will enter split-screen mode.” This is direct evidence for the Xbox 360 edition. Resident Evil 6
Resident Evil 6 has the most detailed documentation. Capcom’s manual says that connecting two or more controllers and selecting “Split” from Screen Mode enables split-screen offline co-op, and it limits the feature: “Split-screen play is only possible in the Campaign and The Mercenaries.” Capcom’s Ada’s Campaign page separately documents local split-screen co-op for that campaign. Resident Evil: Revelations 2
The PS4 manual’s campaign menu labels “Co-Op Play” as offline co-op using split-screen. Capcom’s web manual lists PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Steam as platforms, but the split-screen passage is taken from the PS4 manual. Treat the PS4 wording as confirmed, and check the version you plan to play before assuming the same behaviour on the other listed platforms. Setting up split-screen in Resident Evil 6
The following sequence comes from Capcom’s PS4/Xbox One quick-start page. The PS3/Xbox 360 manual uses different framing, so follow the steps for your platform.
- Connect two compatible controllers before you start a campaign or The Mercenaries session. The manual says two or more controllers are required.
- Select Split from the Screen Mode option.
- Choose the first player’s character.
- Have the second player press Start to join.

Local split-screen versus online co-op
Split-screen means two players share one console and one display. Online co-op connects players remotely and does not show that a title supports couch play. Capcom’s 5 March 2021 Resident Evil Portal article, “Share the Scare: Online Co-op in the Resident Evil Series,” covers online co-op in Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil 6, Revelations and Revelations 2. - Edition and platform: confirm the store listing or manual for your exact platform, because the documented menus differ between console generations.
- Mode scope: the Resident Evil 5 and Revelations 2 sources document campaign co-op. Only Resident Evil 6 names The Mercenaries among its split-screen modes.
- Local versus online: if a listing advertises online co-op, that alone does not confirm couch play.
Limits of the evidence
These statements rest on Capcom’s manuals and web pages. They do not amount to a platform-by-platform check of every mainline entry, spin-off, remaster or port, so treat them as documented split-screen modes rather than a complete catalogue. Capcom’s manuals describe the versions they were written for, and later patches or re-releases can change menus or modes.
