GameSpot identified the opening as an MGB, or Mass Guided Bombs, killstreak animation from the 2023 game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Its March 4 report also says game-like kill scores appear alongside later footage. The White House post was reported as using the caption “Courtesy of the Red, White & Blue.”

ABC News described the video as roughly one minute long: it begins with an animated Call of Duty scene, then cuts to real strike footage. The sequence therefore mixes a recognizable game animation with footage presented in reporting as strikes in Iran.
Which footage is real, and which is from the game?
The opening animation is identified as game footage; the subsequent material is described by ABC News as real strike footage. But ABC says the video itself did not indicate which footage came from the game and which was real. That lack of labeling is a feature of the edit, not proof that every clip was misrepresented or that a particular strike image was false.

The original White House post is not available through the archival record cited by Wikimedia Commons, which says its link is dead. The Commons record describes a screenshot of the March 4 post and corroborates the sequence of MGB footage, real footage and game-style overlays, but it is not the original post or independent verification of every clip.
What reactions and permission questions were reported?
Sen. Tammy Duckworth, an Iraq War veteran wounded in combat, criticized the video on X, writing: “War is not a f—— video game. Six Americans are dead and thousands more are at needless risk because of your illegal, unjustified war. And you’re calling this a flawless victory,” according to ABC News.

The Independent reported that the video used an instrumental version of Childish Gambino’s “Bonfire,” and quoted Iraq War veteran Connor Crehan, who works at Barstool Sports: “War isn’t a video game. The consequences of war are final. I wish we didn’t treat it with such a cavalier approach.”
GameSpot said it sought comment from Activision and had not heard back at publication; it reported that consent for the game footage was unclear. The Independent likewise said permission to use the music and game imagery was unclear when it published. Those reports do not establish whether the rights holders authorized the use, objected to it, or whether the use was lawful.

How to assess other Iran-strike videos
Do not treat findings about a different online video compilation as a verdict on this White House post. A separate Full Fact check dated October 5, 2026, found old footage from Lebanon and Gaza and apparently fake clips in another compilation purporting to show U.S. strikes on Iran. That is a reason to verify each clip’s original source, date and location independently; it does not show that a specific clip in the White House video was false.

- Identify whether a segment is game footage, archival footage or material presented as current before drawing conclusions from the edit.
- Look for the original post and reliable reporting that identifies the footage. A screenshot or repost can corroborate appearance, but cannot by itself authenticate every scene.
- Keep claims about permissions separate from claims about what the video shows: contemporaneous reports described authorization as unclear.
