Aloy’s face model is Dutch actress Hannah Hoekstra. But Hoekstra’s scanned likeness and Ashly Burch’s performance are separate parts of how Horizon Zero Dawn brought the character to life.
Who is Aloy’s face model?
Guerrilla Games used a scan of Hannah Hoekstra as the facial reference for Aloy. 3Lateral, which documented the character’s creation, explains that Hoekstra was scanned for her likeness while Ashly Burch drove Aloy’s facial performance. 3Lateral’s Horizon Zero Dawn project account puts the distinction plainly: “In the case of Aloy, for example, we scanned Dutch actress Hannah Hoekstra but her facial performance was in fact driven by the American actress Ashly Burch.”
What did Ashly Burch contribute?
Burch was Aloy’s voice actress, as confirmed in PlayStation’s account of Aloy’s creation. Her role also included driving Aloy’s facial performance; Hoekstra supplied the scanned likeness. The face model, facial performer and voice actress were therefore not all the same person.
