Sherry Birkin is an adult U.S. agent in Resident Evil 6, working for the Division of Security Operations (DSO). Her direct superior, Derek C. Simmons, assigns her to protect Jake Muller. She is not the child from Resident Evil 2, although that earlier story is the reason she is connected to Jake: she is the daughter of virus researchers William and Annette Birkin, and her childhood in Raccoon City shaped who she became.
Sherry’s role in Resident Evil 6
In Resident Evil 6, Sherry is a field agent, not a civilian or a child in peril. Capcom’s official character file identifies her as a DSO agent and describes her assignment as protecting Jake Muller, a job given to her by Simmons. The game’s scenarios connect several characters’ stories, and a PlayStation Blog preview published on 18 June 2012 identifies Jake and Sherry as a paired scenario within the campaign.

The official timeline places Resident Evil 6 in June 2013, and Capcom summarizes the game as a global bio-terrorist crisis spanning Eastern Europe, North America, and China. Capcom’s franchise history page lists Sherry among the main characters of that story.
Where Sherry came from: the Birkin family and Raccoon City
Sherry’s parents were William and Annette Birkin, both researchers. According to Capcom’s Sherry Birkin character file, William infected himself with the G-Virus and implanted an embryo in Sherry, a choice Capcom ties to her genetic compatibility with the virus.

Afterward, the U.S. government treated her as an important specimen and kept her under supervision. Capcom’s file says she became an agent as a condition of her release from that arrangement.

Sherry appears in two different eras of the franchise, and the same character is at different ages in each. The table below separates the two.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Her relationship with Jake Muller
Capcom describes Sherry as someone who relates to Jake because both were shaped by virus research and by the choices their fathers made. Her childhood also explains her difficulty trusting people, and Capcom connects her motivation as an agent to keeping other children from going through what she went through.
