Daybreak Game Company is the developer and publisher named on Z1 Battle Royale’s current Steam listing. EG7 is Daybreak’s corporate parent, after acquiring the company in 2020. NantG Mobile managed the PC game for a period, but announced in 2019 that it was handing Z1 Battle Royale back to Daybreak.
Who owns Z1 Battle Royale now?
For the current game listing, the clearest answer is Daybreak Game Company: Steam names Daybreak as both developer and publisher for Z1 Battle Royale. EG7 sits above Daybreak in the corporate ownership chain. EG7 reported that it acquired Daybreak in 2020 in its 2024 Annual Report and Sustainability Report, published in 2025.
These are different roles: Daybreak is the company identified on the game’s Steam page, while EG7 is its parent company. NantG’s earlier involvement concerned management of the PC game; it does not describe the current Steam listing.
What happened to NantG Mobile?
In September 2018, NantWorks announced a strategic investment in Daybreak and the creation of NantG Mobile, a joint venture in which NantWorks had a controlling interest. The announcement said NantG would assume control and management of the existing PC H1Z1 Battle Royale game, and described Z1 Battle Royale as a revitalized PC version of H1Z1. The NantWorks announcement explains why older coverage may associate NantG with Z1.

On April 5, 2019, NantG said it was handing Z1 Battle Royale back to Daybreak. NantG also said Daybreak had agreed to keep the servers running and continue live maintenance. Its announcement described the change as returning the game to Daybreak’s publishing umbrella. NantG’s role was therefore a historical management arrangement, not the current publisher shown by Steam.
