Henry is fictional, but several nobles and military figures in Kingdom Come: Deliverance have historical counterparts. Hans Capon, Markvart von Aulitz, Radzig Kobyla, Hanush of Leipa and Divish of Talmberg are tied to real people; their presence does not make the game’s relationships or plot a documentary record.
Which Kingdom Come characters were real?
The clearest distinction is between a historical person or counterpart and the version written for the game. The publisher says Hans is based on a real figure of the same name and Markvart on a historical German noble. A scholarly dissertation excerpt identifies Radzig, Hanush and Divish as historical local lords. By contrast, the publisher describes Henry and Father Godwin as fictional characters.
| Game character | Historical status | What that means |
|---|---|---|
| Henry of Skalitz | Fictional protagonist | He moves through a real historical setting, but is not presented as a historical person. PLAION’s story description frames him as a blacksmith’s son caught up in the invasion. |
| Hans Capon | Based on a real historical figure of the same name | The publisher identifies his counterpart as a hereditary lord of Rattay; the game’s portrayal is dramatized. Deep Silver’s official game page |
| Markvart von Aulitz | Based on a historical German noble | Warhorse’s historical consultant says the real Markvart had died one year before the first game’s events. Deep Silver’s interview with historical consultant Joanna Nowak |
| Radzig Kobyla | Historical local lord | The dissertation excerpt identifies him as historical; Henry’s relationship and the game’s precise sequence should not be treated as established history. University of Waikato dissertation search excerpt |
| Hanush of Leipa | Historical local lord | He corresponds to a real local lord, but his scenes and alliance with Henry are dramatized. University of Waikato dissertation search excerpt |
| Divish of Talmberg | Historical local lord | He corresponds to a real local lord; his alliance with Henry is a fictional arrangement. University of Waikato dissertation search excerpt |
| Father Godwin | Fictional character | The publisher describes him as a fictional village priest. Deep Silver’s official game page |
This is a representative guide, not a complete census of the cast. The sources cited here establish the status of these named characters, not every person appearing across both games.
Is Henry from Kingdom Come a real person?
No. Henry is the fictional protagonist: the official description calls him the son of a blacksmith whose life is swept into the conflict in Bohemia. The publisher’s framing places the story amid events involving Wenceslas, Sigismund and Radzig Kobyla, but that setting does not make Henry’s personal story historical.

Why do historical characters act out fictional events?
Kingdom Come: Deliverance is historical fiction. Warhorse’s historical consultant Joanna Nowak has explained that the studio interprets a past for which many conversations and details cannot be known with certainty: “It’s very difficult to put things in the game with certainty that they’re strictly accurate, because you don’t know exactly what people were talking about.” Nowak’s interview also gives Markvart as a concrete example: the historical figure died before the game’s events, while the game places him in its story.
The dissertation excerpt makes a similar distinction for Radzig, Hanush and Divish: it identifies them as historical local figures, but says their collaboration and alliance with Henry were fictional choices used to shape quests. A real name, therefore, supports only a limited claim about the character’s basis; it does not verify every conversation, relationship, action or date shown on screen.

- A living, medieval world that dynamically responds to your actions but Exists without you
- Realistic & extensive medieval combat. As close as you ever wanted to get to the real thing
- Intriguing story based on historical events inspired by the real-world challenge
- Exceptional level of graphic detail with a dynamic AI system, day and night cycles and changing weather patterns
What should you take as historical fact?
Use the game as a dramatized way into medieval Bohemia, not as a substitute for a history of its people. The official support description is useful for understanding the game’s own premise, while the historical consultant’s comments explain why narrative choices can depart from the record. For the named nobles, the available academic excerpt supports their identification as historical local lords, but not a detailed biography or the game’s exact plot involving them.
