Some Switch 1 accessories work with Nintendo Switch 2, but compatibility depends on the accessory and what you want it to do. Original Joy-Con and the original Pro Controller can pair wirelessly, while the old dock, HDMI cable and standard microSD cards do not serve their usual purposes on Switch 2. Check the exact item before reusing or buying it.
Which Switch 1 accessories work with Switch 2?
Nintendo’s item-by-item compatibility list is the best guide: it distinguishes compatible, partially compatible and incompatible accessories. A device may still work for one purpose but not another.

Can original Joy-Con and their accessories be reused?
Original Joy-Con pair wirelessly, but do not attach
The original Joy-Con can be used with Switch 2 by wireless pairing, but their attachment system is different from Joy-Con 2. They cannot slide onto or physically connect to the new console. If you need to charge the original controllers, use an original Switch or a compatible charging grip or two-way charging stand. Nintendo’s compatibility guidance
Old Joy-Con attachments fit the old controllers, not Joy-Con 2
Nintendo marks the original Joy-Con strap, grip, charging grip, wheel, AA battery pack and charging stand as incompatible with Joy-Con 2. That does not mean every older add-on is useless: Nintendo specifically notes that the Ring-Con can be used with Ring Fit Adventure and the Leg Strap with Nintendo Switch Sports when using original Joy-Con wirelessly. Can I use my old microSD card for Switch 2 games?
No. A standard microSD card cannot store or load digital games or save data on Switch 2. For expandable game storage, use a microSD Express card; Nintendo specifies support for cards up to 2 TB, with an internet system update required on first use. Nintendo Support: microSD card compatibility
A standard card still has a limited use: it can be used to view or copy screenshots and videos captured on an original Switch. It is not a way to carry over game installations or save data. Nintendo Support: microSD card compatibility

If you need more game storage, Nintendo’s US accessories catalog lists a Samsung microSD Express Card – 256GB for Switch 2. The 256 GB figure is the capacity of that listed product, not a console limit.

- How it connects: Does it attach to the console, pair wirelessly or plug into the dock’s USB port?
- Which controller generation it fits: Original Joy-Con accessories are not automatically compatible with Joy-Con 2.
- What function you need: Charging, TV output, game storage and media transfer have different compatibility rules.
- Whether the product has a qualification: Some accessories are only useful with compatible games, while third-party cameras can vary by device.
- What actually needs replacing: You may need a new card, cable or charging method rather than a replacement for every accessory you own.
Nintendo’s US FAQ says, “Select Nintendo Switch accessories can continue to be used on Nintendo Switch 2.” That is a selective compatibility statement, not a guarantee for every Switch accessory; check the exact product and intended use in Nintendo’s item-level list.
