Check those in that order before changing router settings. The question alone doesn’t establish whether there is an outage, and the game’s current platform-specific status needs to be checked for your platform and region.
Start with the game and platform status
- Open Activision’s Black Ops II support hub and check the server-status guidance. Check your platform’s network status as well. If either service reports an alert, wait for it to be resolved and try again before changing your home-network settings.
- If no relevant alert appears, confirm that you’re signed in to the correct system account and that your console or PC can connect to its platform network. Activision’s connection guide links to platform-specific support for Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam.
A green game-status indicator does not rule out a platform sign-in problem or an issue with your own connection. The Activision status page reviewed for this article did not display live Black Ops II status values for individual platforms, so it cannot establish whether the game is currently online or down for you. Check the live page for your platform and region rather than assuming a universal outage or shutdown.

Try low-risk home-network fixes
- Restart your router.
- Pause downloads, streaming, or other activity using substantial bandwidth, then test the game again.
- If possible, connect the console or PC to the router with an Ethernet cable. Activision Support’s connection article, updated June 16, 2026, says: “We strongly recommend using a wired Ethernet connection during online gameplay.” A wired test can help identify whether Wi-Fi reliability is contributing; it won’t resolve a server outage or account sign-in failure.
Change router settings only if the simpler checks fail
Activision recommends testing router options in sequence. Change one setting at a time and retest so you can tell whether it helped.
- Disable port forwarding and enable UPnP, then test the connection.
- If the issue remains, try port forwarding with a static IP address for your console. Use the platform and router instructions appropriate to your equipment.
- For a console only, use a DMZ assignment as a final temporary test. Remove the console’s static IP from the DMZ after testing.
When to contact someone else
If the status checks, sign-in checks, basic network tests, and applicable router tests do not resolve the issue, Activision directs players to contact their internet service provider. If you’re using a school, workplace, or other shared network, contact its administrator instead; network restrictions may be outside your control.

What to include when asking for help
Note whether you play on Xbox, PlayStation, or PC, your region, the exact error message, and the point where the connection fails—for example, sign-in, matchmaking, or joining a match. Those details help distinguish a game-service alert from a platform or home-network issue. Activision’s support hub’s online-services listing includes PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Steam; that listing does not identify the cause of a particular connection failure.
