The friend may not show up in search, the request may sit pending, the party invite may never send, or the invite may arrive but fail when the friend tries to join. Each symptom has a different first check, so identify yours before changing settings.
Identify where the invite fails
Dead by Daylight’s invite process has four stages: finding the friend, delivering the friend request, sending a party invite, and joining after the invite. Match your symptom to a stage before you troubleshoot.

Player-submitted reports in Behaviour Interactive’s public bug tracker describe similar wording, such as “can’t add my friend,” “0 people found,” and “invites are not working.” Those reports show that other players have hit the same symptoms. They do not confirm a widespread defect, and they cannot diagnose your account.
Step 1: Add the friend by complete Dead by Daylight ID
Search is the most common failure point. Behaviour Interactive’s cross-platform help article (published 2020) describes the process below. Labels may change with updates, so use the closest equivalent if your screen differs.

- Open the in-game Friends list.
- Select the add-friend icon.
- Enter your friend’s complete Dead by Daylight ID. The ID is a username followed by four unique identifying characters, so a platform username alone may return nothing.
- Send the friend invite.
Ask your friend to copy the full ID from their own game rather than typing it from memory, since a single wrong character returns no match. The friend can accept the invite the next time they log in to the game.
Step 2: Confirm cross-play if you are on different platforms
Cross-platform invites depend on three things: both platforms must be supported for cross-play, cross-play must be enabled, and both players must be on the same version.

Check the supported platforms
The platform list in Behaviour’s “Which platforms are included in cross-play?” article (published 2020) includes PC through Steam, Microsoft Store, and Epic Games; PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5; Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X; and Nintendo Switch. Because that list is from 2020, check current support if your platform is newer or the list may have changed.
Check the cross-play setting
- Return to the main menu.
- Open Settings.
- Confirm cross-play is enabled.
Behaviour’s article “How do I deactivate cross-play?” (published 2020) states that the setting cannot be changed while you are in a lobby. Leave the lobby first, then change it.

Match the game version
Behaviour’s article “What happens if one platform gets an update later than others?” (published 2020) says cross-play requires all platforms to run the same game version. If one copy has updated and the other has not, update both and restart the game before trying again.

If the friend received the invite but could not join, or joining started and then failed, the cause may be on the connection side rather than the friend list.

- Check platform service status first. Behaviour’s “Error Code 107” article (2025) links disconnection and reconnection problems to a possible player connection or router issue, or a platform online-services problem, and points to service status checks.
- Try a wired connection if you can. Behaviour’s “Network Troubleshooting” article (2022) recommends a wired connection where possible.
- Keep software current. The same article recommends updating Windows, the game, drivers, and platform devices.
- Check Windows Firewall on PC. The article advises checking whether Windows Firewall blocks the game.
- Review NAT type. Behaviour’s “NAT FAQ (Network Issues)” article (2021) explains that Moderate (Type 2) and Strict (Type 3) NAT limit some peer connections and includes platform-specific steps.
These are general network checks. None of the cited articles establishes that NAT or your network caused a particular invitation failure. Changing hardware is not a confirmed invite fix, so treat a router or cable as a conditional step only if the network guidance points to it for your setup.

If the friend search, cross-play settings, version, and service checks all pass and the invite still fails, contact Behaviour Player Support. Include:
